According to Intel, the new Intel HD Graphics 5000 supports the following:
- Maximum resolution of 3200 x 2000 @ 60 Hz (on the U Processors)
- Maximum resolution of via HDMI 4096 x 2304, 3840x2160 @ 24Hz/24bpp
- DisplayPort 1.2 (aka MiniDisplay Port 1.2)
- HDMI 1.4

Do you think Apple will hopefully release a firmware update that would enable these features?
Now 3200 x 2000 is not 4K Resolution (3840 × 2160), but its better than the currently supported resolution of 2560 x 1600.

If so, that would be quite amazing! Excellent future-proofing by Apple.
All of the MacBook Airs come with the HD 5000, so this could be great 2-3 years down the road.
