The Mac Mini is getting a little long in the tooth. Kaby Lake Intel NUCs are looking better everyday. My 2014 Mini is running to my 4K TV but it doesn't support 4K @ 60Hz like the NUC. Should I keep waiting?

If you really want to stay macOS, I'd say wait two months - Apple will either update it, or kill it, and you'll know whether to pick up a NUC or not.

I'm in the same boat. Being a dedicated Apple user requires patience and the ability to guess and speculate endlessly about when something will be updated or released.

In the meantime we either buy the outdated overpriced Mini they have now.... or wait.....and wait, and wonder... and wait... Very frustrating at times. If there is no mini released next week, I am returning the Mini I just bought and going with a NUC.

Im not getting my hopes up. I remember when the 2014 models were released. Literally a downgrade and they sealed it up making it harder to get into. So disappointed. I waited three years and finally needed to replace my desktop. Bought the mid spec with a traditional hard drive. Big mistake.

What do you plan to do with the computer - is this for regular usage, games, media play back or ??? I was a regular fan of the Mac Mini until they castrated it and stopped moving forward with a quad cpu. I had two Minis left and now just one (gave the other to someone who really did need a computer). My remaining Mini has Linux on it and runs Kodi/XBMC and that is its only job for 1080p and lower res media playback.

Perhaps you might want to look at other offerings besides the NUC (only to get an idea of options) such as the smallest member of the HP Z line up. They have their mini workstation and it seems to get pretty good reviews. I am sure there are other small/mini size computers out there.

I don't get upset with Apple anymore as I adopted my own marketing term for them - Apple, -Just another company. Once I got to this point, it became easier for me to be okay with no longer wanting an Apple Mac Pro, no longer wanting a Mac Mini and recently, no longer having/wanting an iPhone. Today, its only about what gets the job done and Apple deserves zero loyalty because they certainly didn't give a damn about those devoted, those that did their PR and those that put up for years with their idiotic form over function campaign that made us wait and wait for little orts of change that should have happened long ago. Yes, Apple - Just another company.
