Isn't it Ericsson that holds the LTE-patents?

Ericsson holds many of them, but far from all. No matter who you are, implementing LTE involves licensing of patents held by others. However, licensing the patens doesn't give you a working implementation, so what MR is talking about here is the licensing of Intel's chip design. A matter of copyright, not patents.

What is it with all these people visiting macrumors lately telling us we are stupid?
All people that buy iPhones are stupid, hostages, etc.
Yes, we are all morons.... Leave it at that. iPhones don' t have any advantage over high end androids, but we are so stupid, we keep buying iPhones .

But happy hunting, you are really making progress, we all feel stupid and will buy a s7 now....

Does this mean that Apple's reliance on Samsung or TSMC is going away sooner than everyone thought?

I wish battery technology had seen a fraction of the improvement that cellular speeds had in the past 10 years.

It's the Achilles Heel of modern tech.

It would not be so bad if every manufacturer was not stupidly obsessed with making thinner and thinner phones.

All pointless to me when my carrier (and probably all US carriers) get no where near that speed. They certainly won't be there in the lifespan that I keep a phone.

I agree, but this stuff becomes just a selling point.

Ah, the pain of not knowing which chip will be in which phone, when it gets hot, or maybe it will be the LG OLED display or maybe the SAMSUNG OLED causing this.

All psychiatrists should get their couches ready.

I think we need SIRI programmed to be an iPhone whisperer who can calm down the anxious.

"What LTE chip is in my phone?"
SIRI: It's whatever you want it to be.
"I am confused"
SIRI: It's whatever you want to be.
"Do I have a SAMSUNG OLED with an INTEL LTE modem?"
It's whatever you want.
"Or is it LG with a Qualcomm modem?"
SIRI: It's whatever
$%^E^#&!@!@
SIRI: Glad I could help.

First thing I thought of: Samsung vs TSMC.

So far, sales are proving them right.

You know that people will start benchmarking the two LTE chipsets, whether it be battery life or speed. The two will never be equal... Apple might have another LTEgate coming. I hope they tune both chips to perform identically...

PS-I am a Samsung chipgate "victim", but to tell you the truth the 6s plus is so sweet - I couldn't care less.

There are plenty of people that would buy an iPhone that is 3mm thicker and lasts 50% more. We will never know how many because it is not available. I don't care so much because I am not a heavy user, but some of the kids that are glued to their phone 14 hours a day would probably go for it.
