There was a rumor that it was getting a very minor bump in November to the real Montevenia chips, but I didn't really buy it; however, given the 24" LED Cinema Display, the 24" iMac might get that screen in November. That would explain an update earlier than next year.

thanks zedsdead,

what is the advantage of 24" LED (i know in notebook it will save energy) but in desktop? all it will be expensive than 24" LCD, hey it will be cool though ...

How i can plugin my mouse to play games if the i/o are all on the left? This is so stupid! I cant play games with the multitouch :S
I want a USB on the right or swamp the sides. DVD to the left and the rest to the right. Apple engineers do this mac?

where the USB is with regards to a mouse is a non issue, especially is it's wireless, which is what the were probably thinking:rolleyes:

To file a complaint about the exclusion of FIREWIRE in Macbooks you can simply click here... very simple.

http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbook.html

Yep.
And after submitting your feedback, LET YOUR WALLET DO THE TALKING people.
Seriously, selling product trumps mountains of negative feedback every... single... time.
If somehting makes you unhappy enough to post feedback, don't then turn around a buy the shiny new object (something I suspect happens more often than not). Kind of defeats the purpose.

Now that I had the chance to look at some photos, they do look like beautiful machines. Price is still a shocker... next time I am at my apple store, I will play with one.

I'm a lefty as well...but I a mouse with my right hand. It isn't that bad of a predicament; the cable will just loop around the laptop.

I actually prefer with the cord loops around the back instead of bunching up on the right. As long as the cord is long enough, of course. I'm a righty.

Am I wrong or the MBP can only use 1 graphic "chip" at a time?!?! No Hybrid SLI ?! Why is not possible to use the 2 chips for ultra-performance like in other PCs/notebooks ??
Em. Because it's not possible on PCs either.

Hybrid SLI can only pair the IGP with a low-end GPU something like a 9500M G and below. Hybrid SLI can't pair with a 9600M GT in SLI mode regardless of the operating system or who is making it. It was never advertised as such, and nVidia has been quite clear on this on their website. I've pointed this out several times in the lead up to the launch and I don't know where people are getting this idea from to falsely raise their expectations.

The best Apple can do is use both GPUs separately for GPGPU tasks through OpenCL coming in Snow Leopard. Only nVidia can figure out how to SLI the IGP and discrete GPU together for gaming.

Nice info on the AIR. The 1.8/128GB SSD AIR . . . probably the only laptop I would buy out of todays update. Love my 1.6/80 *most* of the time. ;)

I have had a look through the Singapore Apple store and I pretty much agree. They knock $1000 off the price of the MBA, double the SSD, give it an NVIDIA. The MBP is the same price (yes with upgraded features) and the new MB is actually $200 more. That is the one bit of "news" really. The casing we knew about, NVIDIA we knew about, but a $1k drop on the MBA is kinda disappointing overall I feel...

The new one. Faster FSB, more cache, faster HD, faster graphics (VRAM doesn't really matter. It's the chip!)
Little doubt about it. Even the processor should be faster on the new one, despite being clocked at 100MHz less.

The new one has less Cache....and when comparing the price difference of the fastest late model and the new one ...the obvious choice for me was to go with the late model.....I just purchased it yesterday for $1499, instead of the $2299 (student price) of the new one. That's a savings of $800....

....no way there' $800 worth of a performance difference between the two.

Plus I got the Matte screen:cool:

Yeah, but they're all lefties.

I didn't really think about the ports moving sides, but I can see a problem with using an external mouse. My might mouse cord isn't really that long.

2) Sarah Palin cannot ever be given the chance to be president

Why not, she is a babe! Moreso she actually did something good for her state.

Look at it this way Apple debuted a really sexy laptop series that will morph in to something great. Palin like wise has that potential to morph into something great. Obama will forever be an idiot.

Morphing is a key issue here as Apple has developed a new manufacturing process that will allow them to evolve the models over time. With CNC they could turn out new features as fast as they could program the machines if they wanted. Many here complain about this or that missing from the new models, from the standpoint of the case features could be added or taken away in a days time if they wanted. Of course if the feature requires a logic board change that is a different issue.

Given a little tweaking of the production line I could see Apple adding custom or personalized features to the cases. For example having your name engraved on the case. For corporate purchases I could see Apple offering up engravings like "Property of XYZ Corporation". For something a bit more mass produced they could offer up a case with special porting for things like WiMax antenna or even a FireWire port. All it would require is the CNC machine running a slightly different program.

Apple debuted a fatally flawed laptop series.

The Repugs debuted someone who thinks they have foreign policy down because they can see Russia from Alaska.

I'm too seeing the comparison, but it isn't flattering.

Obama? A statesman amongst fools.

Can't wait

Think I'll wait for the Nehalem MacBook, hopefully in the Spring :)

I doubt that very much! Mobile Nehalem (i7) aren't due until the second half of 2009.

In any case, Apple is very unlikely to do a major upgrade of their MB/MBP/MBA range within 6 months. More likely that we may see Mac Pros with Nehalem at Macworld in January as the chips should be available and they are due an upgrade (as is the Mac Mini - but I have given up of waiting for that one...)

I for one can't wait a year for nehalem chips in MBPs so I'll probably get myself one in the next week or so.....

DAMN, you are right :)
I'm looking forward to see the results of OpenCL. With the benefits of Nehalem and OpenCL in Snow leopard...this machines will scream.
Good point though, about the Hybrid SLI.

Does anyone know if the new MacBook Pro can use the older DDR2 RAM? Running Fusion with 2gb isn't working well for me and I'd be nice if I could swap memory with my old MacBook Pro while I wait for my memory upgrade to arrive.

I do. And the answer is no; the new MacBook Pro cannot use DDR2 RAM.

I was hoping it would just work at a slower speed but I was afraid this was probably the case. I'm sure using the faster RAM in my old computer would work.

I'm afraid that's not gonna work either. From what I know, DDR2 --> DDR3 isn't just a simple speed bump like 533 MHz to 667 MHz to 800 MHz for DDR2 RAM. DDR3 has some substantial changes that make it completely incompatible. Changes like voltage, how the chipset and RAM communicate with each other and more obviously, the number of pins and placement of the notch.

So you won't even be able to fit the DDR2 module into your new mac or DDR3 module into your old one, as far as I can tell. Hope this helps.

This is the latter I just sent to Apple's MacBook Pro feedback:

"I am an architect who has logged thousands and thousands of hours on design work, 3D modeling, rendering, graphics and presentations on two generations of Powerbooks for the past 7 years, and have been anxiously waiting for the new 'brick' MacBook Pros to come out. I'm also a professor of architectural design at a large college of art and design that has many Mac Pros running Cinema Displays in their computer labs, and that sells hundreds of MacBook Pros to the students. Additionally, I constantly use my Apple laptop to give weekly lectures at my college and presentations of my design work at venues around the globe (with the glowing Apple logo proudly displayed to the audience from the lectern).

But I can tell you first hand that I and almost anyone I know among my many colleagues, and most of the hundreds of students I teach PREFER MATTE screens for design/graphics work. By abandoning matte screens in your pro laptops and displays, you are making a potentially grave error, shutting out a huge element of Apple users. It was extremely disheartening to have heard from Jobs and Ives that "a vast majority prefer glossy" and that 'you can just change positions to compensate for glare', as responses to this issue. Just because glossy screens became a fad among PC (consumer) laptops and are popular with SOME consumers including iMac users in no way makes a convincing argument for the elimination of a matte option for all the existing and future pro Apple users -- on the contrary it seems downright disrespectful of the very user base (in both professional and academic design disciplines) that stuck with and strengthened Apple all these years. Please reconsider the elimination of matte screens, or it seems plainly clear Apple will lose many customers in these arenas, and lose respect as makers of true professional computer hardware!"

- probably will fall on deaf ears (if not blind eyes)...
