I just thought of this, but don't really have the time to do it, so if someone else wants to, feel free! Anyway, basically my idea is to fake a way to have translucent app icons. Here's how you'd do it:

    1. Pick a background and icon scheme and import them all to photoshop.
    2. Place the icons over the background exactly where they would show up on the springboard.
    3. Make all the icons translucent.
    4. Flatten everything into one layer.
    5. Cut the icons out of the background+icons layer and save them as new .png files.
    6. Tada! Translucent icons!

    Whaddya think?

Problem is that as soon as you rearrange the icons its all buggered.

You could just upload blank icons and there you go.

Open each icon and delete all the pixel info from it (download one of the complete themes like Mystique and modify it). That way they will sit seamlessly on whatever wallpaper you want, and just display the app name; however, the lighter the background the harder it will be to read the app name.

All you would need is a single theme with blank icons and turn off the "Theme Wallpaper" feature in SMB. Then you can easily switch wallpapers via Apple's Settings app.

But then you would have transparent icons. I was talking about translucent icons.
