So i had to take my 11 pro Max back to my Apple store today. I had factory reset it following some weird issues but it bricked halfway though attempting to restore from last night back up and call with tech support failed to bring the phone back to life.

My Apple store replaced the phone immediately and I decided to set it up whilst i was in the store in case I had any further issues. I restored from an earlier back up rather than last nights back up. Whilst i was in there setting my phone up at an allocated set up table, three other people came in with bricked Pro Max's. In addition, there were a couple of guys at the same table as me setting up their new phones and both of them had real issues with the phones hanging for hours when trying to set up the phones from cloud backups to the extent that a couple of geniuses were called over to try and help them out and when I left the store with my phone sorted, they were still trying to sort out the set up problems.
Makes me wonder if there are some disturbing issues with iOS13

Wouldn’t surprise me. There’s gotta be a reason .1 is being released Tuesday.

Yeah 13.0 is pretty bad from everything I’ve read/watched on it. I’ve told everybody I know with iPhones to skip it and install 13.1.

Restore went perfectly on my Pro.

.1 better fix this train wreck can't keep paying Apple top dollar for inferior equipment.

I think so. Earlier I was there today and over heard quite a few customers having the same issue where they were doing restoring from back up some were just stuck, no movement, even stuck on the apple logo boot.

I had issues with Apple Music failing to download locally, CarPlay rebooting every 30 seconds and the music app constantly freezing. Nightmare. Roll on tuesday

Or you could install 13.1 today. Why deal with the bugs for another two days when the final version is likely already available?

Yep my first phone got stuck on the boot logo and the guy next to me had to have his phone reset 4 times because it wouldnt complete the restore. When I left the store, he was having a rant at the staff.

It seems fine now but i want to see a few people report back on 13.1 to see if it's any better

It’s not that hard to setup as new. It’s worth it IMO. I do it every time. Take screenshots of your home screens. Have everything backed up to iCloud. I had to DFU my XR this past week and had it done and 90% setup in an hour.

I’ve been on both & 13.1 PB is definitely better.

Even the idea exhausts me. Having to configure my personal/corp mail accounts along with the 2 step verification apps required for many things, then logging in to apps that doesnt sync all of its app data to iCloud, then setting up Apple Pay and face ID then pairing it to the watch is not how I want to spend a Saturday.

I don’t mix work and personal anymore. Learned the hard way when DOJ investigated my company and Legal wanted to cast a ‘wide net’. I can complete the whole process in about an hour if undisturbed..wife/kids. Or can do 90% in an hour and then tweak to final in under half hour.

13.0 is really bad on my 11 Pro. Every time I try and send a video via the email app, the email app crashes. I can send photos, but not videos.

I got exhausted just reading this
I absolutely agree, it’s the one part I dread about getting a new phone.

I get that being the first on the block with a shiny new toy is neat, and has a lot of appeal, but does it overcome all the potential issues associated with being on the cutting edge?

For the past couple weeks, this forum has been littered with topics about people having failed payments, orders cancelled, or similar issues with just getting in the queue.

Launch day comes, and there are gripes about waiting in queues, seeing other who don't have pre-orders "skipping" ahead, or simply braving the crowds as part of some capitalist orgy.

Having a new phone involves finishing the testing and experiencing the issues that weren't caught in development process, including the latent hardware issues that haven't manifested themselves yet. iOS 13 clearly wasn't finished baking, and as for the hardware, Foxconn has to meet ship targets and brings in temporary workers to meet Apple's initial orders. Quick ramps are not conducive to good quality.

Is whatever novelty or rush being first worth it, versus waiting for the dust to settle?

iPhones are not limited editions, and will continue to be sold well into the future. An iPhone 11 bought weeks or months from now will be the exact same thing, or almost assured to be better in at least some respects.

So I did a back up right before I set up my Pro Max. I restored from that back up with no problems. It was probably done in just over an hour-hour and a half at most?
Before I did the back up I deleted a bunch of unused apps so when I did a restore it wasn’t so much to restore.

On my 11 Pro Max I did a restore from backup connected to my computer and at one point it hung for over 30 minutes with no indication it was doing anything. I actually called Apple support and was told to let it sit for up to an hour. It finally finished and all is OK.

Wouldn't surprise me. 13.0 has been a train wreck since they stopped development on it at Beta 8. It should have never been released in the state it was in. 13.1 is much much better but I wish they weren't rushing it out as it still needs some work. I get it though, Apple is pushing it because they know what a disaster 13.0 is.

I used the new direct migration feature to move from my XS to my 11 Pro, and it failed 3 times before finally working. My old phone simply said "Setup Failed" with an error code, and the new phone only had the option for a full erase and start over. Worked the first time on my wife's phone, however.

Is the Pro/ProMax supposed to recognize NFC cards set up for Automations when the screen is off? It works perfectly the moment I wake the screen but I can’t wave my phone in front of the tag without turning the screen on first...

They rushed it out knowing that it had bugs so that they didn’t have to delay the release of the new phones. That’s why 13.1 is coming out so quickly.

I always set up from new now, ever since iMessages in iCloud rolled out. Never really takes that long for me. Most things are setup automatically. Two factor used to be the biggest pain in the butt, but I switched to Authy and it backs up all of my accounts to iCloud, one less thing to bother about.

What's Authy?

What's Authy?
It’s a two-factor authentication app, you can use it instead of, for example, the Google Authenticator app.
Does the same job, but I prefer it because unlike the Google option, it backs up your accounts to iCloud, so you don’t lose all of your 2FA accounts if you wipe your phone and forget to do the transfer process Google requires for switching devices.

I spend over a day trying to backup my old Xs Max and hours with Apple Support. Everything failed. ITunes to iCloud, iTunes to Mac, XS Max to iCloud, XS Max to Pro Max wired, XS Max to Pro wireless (via initial installer). The XS backup would start and just hang either at "preparing backup", at 5%, or ~15%. I found if I left preferences, went into another program and then back into preferences/backup the status bar would recalculate when doing an XS iCloud backup. Eventually one of these recalculations caused it to actually complete the backup. When I went to do the restore it to the Pro Max initially said it would take 24 hours. Then 1 day. Then 2 days. I killed it when it said it would take 3 days. My speed test results are ~500 Mbps.

Part of the problem may be I had 325 GB of documents and data. I understand that this is backed up, maybe this is the cause? Since it was locking up my storage as well I tried deleting just about everything, turning of iCloud photos, signing out of iCloud, etc. No change. 325 GB of storage tied up and to be backed up.

My concern was the backup of my health and activity data from my watch. As it turns out you can manually export your health data. The apple watch activity data seems to be backed up as well. I'm not sure if it just happens when you unpair it or whether it continually backs it up.

So I decided to do a clean install. This has the advantage of not restoring those 325 GB of unknown data. If you transfer your settings during the initial install but don't do a restore then most of the hard stuff (other than installing apps) is done. Mail, internet settings were all set correctly. I immediately filled up all of my memory with everything I could think of (music, books, videos, etc.) leaving ~40 GB free so I would lose storage to "Documents and Data". Then backed everything up locally and to iCloud.
