When I awake my MacBook from sleep, it make a weird sound, normally three times, with a 4-5 second pause between them. It doesn't sound like mooing, but it starts off low and goes high. All very quickly. It starts out in the left speaker and moves over to the right speaker... I have never heard this on any other Mac.

Can anyone verifiy if they have heard this, and if so, what is it????

I was wondering if it is searching for the Airport signal... Even so, I have never, ever heard this sound out of any Apple laptop before.

Sound actually comes from the speakers. Sounds like a "spring". Hard to describe. 2-3 short sounds, that start in the left speaker and go the right speaker...

could it be ichat av connecting....?

kind of sounds like what you describe...

BINGO!

I have never used iChat before, but I force quit iChat and the sound left!

Thanks!

funny noise

macpastor... I have a similar problem. It is nearly impossible to describe the sound. It sounds kind of like fizz from a coke can. Very short but loud and obvious. I work for a company that does mac support for local business networks (I know hardware and software relatively well) and I have no idea what it is. It is not iChat, the hard drive, or disc drive.

It happens when I wake my machine from sleep. More specifically, it happens right before the first sound after waking up. It is coming from the speakers. If I plug in my headphones, the sound comes from them and not from the built in speakers... this make me think it is a software issue.

Anybody have any ideas? I'm thinking about taking mine in.

(I just saw your last post... I guess we are not having the same problem... anybody else have an idea what my computer is doing?)

i think this sound might be coming from mail app. yes its like a fizz sound or waves hitting a beach. its hard to describe.

the sound has been happening since OS 10.5.3

i notice that it happens after the "get mail" sound. thats why i think it from mail app. it only happens once every time after my macbook is woke from sleep.
