I bet they did it on purpose. Linking there new product with a fairly well know music video will likely help sales. I like the ad though.

apprently the postal service issued a statement saying that they were not consulted on this ad and are extremely unhappy.... i thought that the video in itunes meant all is well... apparently it isnt...

It has recently come to our attention that Apple Computers' new television commercial for the Intel chip features a shot-for-shot recreation of our video for 'Such Great Heights' made by the same filmmakers responsible for the original. We did not approve this commercialization and are extremely disappointed with both parties that this was executed without our consultation or consent. -Ben Gibbard, The Postal Service

wonder what is going to happen... Lugz did not do anything over their conterversy...

Nothing is going to happen, you'd have to be crazy to take on the Apple Legal Team.

I can't say the commercial was "shot-for-shot." But I can say the Apple commercial was filmed much better. It was the lighting or something; everything just looked much clearer.

not that Ben Gibbard needs any more money or credit or attention (ha) but that's a pretty blantant boo-boo. It's TOO convenient that Apple marketing let that slip, unless Sub Pop doesn't have complete ownership of the footage. still, as pretty as the ad is, it's pretty clear that apple doesn't deserve a shred of credit for coming up with the idea.

And I don't believe Apple's trying to take credit. Credit (or blame?) goes to Josh Melnick and Xander Charity, the directors of the ad and, lo and behold, also the directors of the video. End of story.

I was watching the UK More4 channel last night. They aired the Apple Intel advert (the UK one*) and then later in the same break an advert for Ask.com with "Such Great Heights" as the soundtrack!

*I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere, but on the day the MacBook Pro was announced and for a few days afterwards, the US version of the advert was broadcast on UK television channels.
