For the last few days we've been experiencing an intermittent home button problem with our iPad3. Basically the home button will not work and we have to shut it down. Anyone else have this problem?

Called Applecare this morning, and they are sending us out an "As New" replacement iPad3, and then we have to return ours.

I hope this "As New" is truly As New"- Not even sure what that means?

Overall, Apple does have the best customer service!

Hey there. As you have done, the best option for you currently is to just get a replacement from Apple. If you ever experience anything like this again there is a software fix that can remedy it until your next reboot cycle.

Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Assistive Touch

This will create a software home button you can place anywhere on the screen you would like.

Hope this helps!

By all means get this one going, here is an youtube one on iphone does not matter, you do not want your home key to go bad for wear and tear. I found this helps a lot.

Got shipping notice yesterday afternoon; looks like I am getting a refirb and serial number begins with "DK".

My only concern is I hope they fixed whatever problem the refirb was returned for.

The AppleCare replacement will indistinguishable from a brand-new, off the shelf model. the only difference being that it ships in plain packaging instead of the printed box.

Excellent service, well worth the premium price tag, and is something that tends to get overlooked when people discuss the 'inflated' price of Apple gear.

1. Has anyone gotten a bad Refirb iPad?

2. I agree; the excellext customer service and support is worth an additional premium.

This is a common occurrence with all iPads. Over time the home button can wear out. Use the 5-finger gesture.

Downloaded the latest IOS update yesterday, and since then we haven't had one problem with the home button.

Called Apple today, and this Tech indicated it was most likely a software issue than a hardware issue (Tech yesterday indicated a Hardware issue rather than a software issue)

If we do not have any more issues with the home button before the refirb arrives, we may refuse it, and just keep ours as we know what we have.

I think you have an excellent idea here. Just make certain you check out the button function really well just before the warranty expires. My wife's iPod Touch 4 had a home button start failing at around 8 months. It began with requiring a few clicks to work then progressed to rocking it back and forth to get it to work then could hardly get a click at all. BTW the refurb it was replaced with has a crooked home button (icon rotated about 10 degrees).
