Shortly after the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max were released last September, some customers began to experience an issue with the devices overheating. Apple eventually mitigated the problem with an iOS 17 update, but it might go a step further with the iPhone 16 models that are set to be released later this year.

The Information today cited a source who said that iPhone 16 models will be equipped with a "larger graphite sheet" inside the chassis of the devices, to address potential overheating. This corroborates a rumor from last November that claimed iPhone 16 models would feature an improved thermal management system.

Apple is expected to release the iPhone 16 series in September, so the devices should be just a few months away from launching. With this rumored change, the post-launch overheating issue should be a thing of the past.

iPhone 15 overheating was caused by iOS 17 except that it wasn’t so they’re incorporating a more robust heat sink in iPhone 16

You might be misrepresenting the whole thing.

iPhone 15 has ever only run iOS 17, it's wrong to say the overheating is caused by iOS 17, more like it, an update to iOS 17 allowed them to fix or mitigate the overheating. Hardware shortcomings attenuated by software tweaks. This is not either new nor uncommon to be honest.

Have my 15 Pro since release day and haven’t experienced any kind of serious heat or overheating so far, also not before the update that was intended fixing this „issue“.
I barely have any social media apps on my phone, probably that’s one of the reasons.

This is OT but I’ve got a 15 Pro and based on everything I’ve read I think I will be holding off until the 17 Pro before upgrading. As an AVP owner if you can shoot noticeably better spatial video I’d think long and hard about going from the 16 or 16 Pro.

Can anybody who knows about the camera technology that’ll be there in the 16 / 16 Pro enlighten me about how much better the they will be at taking spatial video versus the 15 Pro? I’m assuming the 16 will have basically the same camera technology in the current 15 Pro with the 16 Pro having the camera that will be noticeably better but you know what happens when you assume 😉

I just don’t think that alone will move the needle since the 15 Pro will support Apple Intelligence and I haven’t read about any Apple Intelligence limitations that will exist for the 15 Pro that won’t be there in the 16/16 Pro and I doubt if I do an upgrade after one year that I’m going to want to do it again when the 17 ships so I think I’ll hold off unless it’s ability to shoot spatial video takes a big leap forward.

Running Death Stranding Directors Cut on the iPhone 15 Pro got hot enough that we ended up putting a freezer pouch underneath it to keep it cool. Worked great, without it it would get too warm & would stall. We were super impressed with the graphics as it looked like it was running on the latest PlayStation… 👍🏻

There will always be something. If it's not overheating then it'll be another problem, there always is.

I’ve definitely experienced overheating issues with my 15 Pro Max—the most pronounced in all my years as an iPhone user. The overheating has taken a toll on my battery health. Usually when I upgrade my iPhone after about a year, my battery health is somewhere between ninety-seven and ninety-nine percent. On my 15 Pro Max, battery health is around ninety-one percent after ten months. I’ve never seen a battery degrade like that before.

Same here. It gets pretty warm when charging either through MagSafe or wired. I’ve had my 15 Pro Max since launch day and the battery health is at 89%

That’s definitely not true. Visuals take a big hit compared to the PlayStation version, especially the PlayStation 5 version. And I don’t talk about framerate here which is also way ahead on the Ps5.
Still impressive stuff to see these games running on a phone but saying that the graphics is on par with the latest PlayStation is simply not true. More wishful thinking.

The overheating thing should never have happened.
Agreed! We don't need thinner and thinner and thinner. The phones are thin enough. Tackle the issues like battery life and overheating and once those are great, Apple can go back to thinking about how to go thinner and thinner.

The overheat thing is really ridiculous. It has happened on multiple occasions when actively using GPS navigation with the phone plugged in the car that, the phone can overheat with just some sun shining on the phone for a while.
