I’ve definitely experienced overheating issues with my 15 Pro Max—the most pronounced in all my years as an iPhone user. The overheating has taken a toll on my battery health. Usually when I upgrade my iPhone after about a year, my battery health is somewhere between ninety-seven and ninety-nine percent. On my 15 Pro Max, battery health is around ninety-one percent after ten months. I’ve never seen a battery degrade like that before.
I guess you didn’t have the 14 Pro. That thing drops to 88% at the same time this year.
my launch day 15 Pro Max is still at 99% with no overheating issue at all. I charge it wired nearly 100% of the time and limit it to 80% on weekdays where I have access to charging. (lesson learnt from the crazy 14 Pro)

Forget about heatsinks or thermal systems - when is Apple going to focus on efficiency like they claim to all the time? It's great that these chips are faster and faster every year, but they also run hotter and hotter, using more and more power.

No, it is an iPhone problem. A normal person expects to be able to use their iPhone in 80 degree weather.

It is reasonable to expect Apple to design an iPhone to function in 80 degree weather.
Put any Android phone that's made of glass and metal out in the sun and the same exact thing will happen. The same reason why you feel hot sitting next to a window in direct sunlight, or the inside of a car gets really hot in the sun.

That's the number one reason I will be upgrading. I would have loved to go caseless this year, but it get's too damn hot.

is this the closest apple has ever come to admitting that the iphone 15 has hardware design issues that caused overheating? Theyve previously blamed it on ios bugs and 3rd party apps.

The battery health on my 14 Pro (1TB) was 96 percent at the one year mark. It’s now at 94 percent. I purchased it in January 2023 so I believe it’s possible that Apple used lower quality batteries with the initial batch of 14 Pro models during the September/October 2022 timeframe. Maybe 14 Pro models sold in November were also affected.

Hopefully, Apple has learned their lesson and will implement better thermal management on the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. A vapor chamber would help if they ever plan to add one. Keep in mind, it may be 80 degrees, but with humidity the heat index will be higher and of course being in direct sunlight won’t do your phone any favors.

Oh, cool. I asked about the iPhone 15 and overheating in the iPhone section of the MacRumors forums a few days ago. And this article pretty much answers my questions about it.

(Also, some MacRumors users were kind enough to help answer my question as well.)

The Information today cited a source who said that iPhone 16 models will be equipped with a "larger graphite sheet" inside the chassis of the devices, to address potential overheating.
[sarcasm]
I wish my hero Tim Cook had not wasted money on fixing the iPhone's overheating issue and instead saved that money in order to maximize profits. Shareholders are more important than customers like me.

"Such innovation!"
"Praise Apple!"
"I'm definitely upgrading to the 16"

Well, so much for the people say the iPhone Pro series isn't overheating. I have an iPhone Pro Max I overheating. I don't overcharge my device. My screen is moving so much because the battery is pushing the screen out of place. defective battery? Mag Safe or not isn't the problem. There is just problems with cooling.! If you hardly use your phone of course you’re gonna have a good battery life of course it’s not gonna overheat? If you’re a heavy user you’re going to have problems.

My 15 PM heats up outdoors doing basic tasks ( email, browsing and/or music or camera ) while my Galaxy S23 Ultra and 24 Ultra barely break a sweat!

And, I don't use cases on any of my devices.

Both iPhone 14 and 15 Pro Max overheat in 80F weather when capturing modest amounts of video. It’s been a real pain.
I hate even using the public transport app because my phone turns into a frying pan! 80F+ is a nightmare for my phone. Even at home, sometimes I have to freeze my phone for a few minutes so it won't burn my hand!

I have noticed heat issues when I take photos and videos. As I live in Sweden, outside temperature is not a issue. I always use a case. As the thicker cases don't transfer the heat, screen use to get warm. So I bought a frame less case and it does a better job. But heating issue is still there.
My battery health is 100% @ 183 cycles. But apps I mainly use are Safari and YouTube. I have all social media apps in my Sony Xperia. So, iphone is not loaded. If I had used only iPhone for all my apps, battery health would have been around 90%

I think it’s quite likely, I used my phones in the same way and the 14 Pro battery health just dropped like crazy. It’s like 2-3x the speed of all previous iPhones (since we have the battery health reading) and the 15 Pro Max that I have now.

Given the significantly different experiences people encountered for the iPhone 14 & 15, I think there must be some problem with some batches of the batteries, in both generations. That’s quite unacceptable and I wonder why no one has investigated this yet.
