As I think of it, it could be only good for the labels if they put their 12" releases to iTMS.. because now mostly only DJs buy vinyls. If the singles were in iTMS, you could get them there and wouldn't need to buy a turntable before you could even play the vinyls. Well, I already bought one (deck that is), but I guess I could sell it if the stuff was already available at iTMS.

exactly. i think full-analog music combined with the full-digital approach of the itunes store would be perfect... it's only those in-between media like CD/MD/other crap that suck. i'm a vinyl collector myself, but for some songs i am not really willing to buy the whole album... furthermore, i am undecided whether it would be good for the indie labels to be on iTMS.... i mean, obscurity and all that is part of the program somehow

I had randomly said this is the MacRumors IRC Channel, but I'll throw it out there again.

[I am looking for the link-I originally saw it on Yahoo]

Basically it just says that the EU has ruled in some case that does not allow Amazon to use its 1-Click service in Europe. I am not exactly sure what it means, but to me that means Apple won't be able to include 1-Click purchasing in the European/International iTMS.

No, Amazon can't patent 1 click. (I mean, nice idea, but it doesn't deserve a patent..) Amazon, Apple, and pretty much everybody can use it though.

Great news. ITMS in Europe and new G5s come Monday I will have to warn my Bank Manager that my overdraft will be going up.

May I suggest a poll on wheather any other single company gets as much of your hard earned cash? ( Excluding the Inland Revenue :p )

Cheers

I hear that!!! I can't see why it is taking so long to get this thing north of the border. I am still encoding my CDs to AAC to go on my new iPod but soon I will be looking to buy more.

iTunes in CANADA!

All this talk of Europe...and they haven't even made it available in Toronto (Southern Ontario) yet. Over 4 and a half million people just north of New York...but let's send it across oceans first.    :(

iTunes in CANADA!

Yeah, let's translate it into twleve languages and be able to accept who knows how many currencies besides the Euro on the other side of the Atlantic....'cos that would make much more business sense than making it available to, say, 20 Million English speaking Canadians who may already have iPods and perhaps even US dollar credit cards!

Hey Canadians,

It's the negotiations and legal work that takes time. Apple has to do all of this from scratch for each new set of laws. If iTMS comes to Europe first, it's because the legal work was finished there first. It's definitely not a conspiracy, and in this case not even a marketing decision.

Amazingly it already has a patent in the US (5,960,411) and Apple licenced this 'technology' in 2000. This won't happen in europe because EU law means that this sort of software patent is not possible (you can't patent a buisiness practice)

What might be complex in europe is the new law that requires sales tax on all internet services regardles of where the service is based this tax varies between member states which will either vary the price or apple's profit between EU Countries.

I doubt Apple will sacrifice profit. I'm sure that it will be tied to a person's home address or the billing address on their bank account.

As far as the Canadian launch of iTunes, I'm sure that it will happen before the European launch. Earlier, in another post a Canadian poster mentioned that music is actually less expensive in Canada than in the US and the Canadian content laws may have something to do with the delay.

In the UK you are (were?) not allowed to electronically hold a credit card number for longer than the duration of the transaction. Which effectively rules out one-click ordering. But, having said that, amazon.co.uk uses one-click, so either the law's changed, amazon have found a loophole or they're just breaking the law.

re: canada
This cost thing has been hashed out in another thread. But I suspect that our lower costs in metropolitan areas (where most of our citizens live) does not put us (canadians) on the front burner. More profit opportunities may lay in other countries first.

re: we are right next door.
So what, geography doesn't really count on the internet. I am closer to Apple's Headquarters then NewYork. This doesn't mean that I should get access before the east coast.

But congrats on the music execs for starting to realize that there are new ways that the music industry is going to have to adopt in a modern world. And congrats to Apple for creating such a <<<<searching for positive adjective>>>> ....well such an "Apple" way of accessing music.

Spot on - 20 million Canadians compared to 250 million Europeans - Where if you were SJ would you put your focus first ?
I would even agree if he put the MS crowd before the Apple faithfuls. :)

This coupled with the release of itunes for Windows should do a good job of locking up the online music sales game. (No one has anying equal but you can bet that there are copycats *cough* Microsoft *cough* who will be out there soon enough.
Apple has left too many holes open right now (e.g. US only, Mac only.) allowing others to jump in and possibly eat a large chunk of this emerging market.
Also it’s good to see Apple diversifying its product line further reducing its dependency on its computer hardware\software line of products to keep it afloat.
