International texting and imessage?

I am adding on an international plan for a few days while vacationing next month. The plan includes unlimited texting, does that mean regular text and not imessage? Should I just turn off iMessage the entire time?

iMessage is free and uses data.
It's also better than regular texts.
If you're on wifi use iMessage.
