internet abreviations

stealing a post from another thread (thanks for letting me borrow). i think it's time we had a thread explaining what all these crazy abreviations mean. i know what some of them are, well... maybe just that lol= laughing out loud.

what are the others?

**** = shut the **** up
gbtw = get back to work

as for the last one, well
OMG = Oh my god, WTF = what the ****
but BBQ??? don't know that one unless it involves charred ribs and humourous aprons...

I think that somebody in MR (= macrumors😀) once posted a link for an online abrieviation-dictionary... can't seem to find it, though.

Whenever I find one I don't know (for some reason I'm always forgetting FUD), I just google it.

And based on that method, **** is indeed shut the **** up.
 
Can someone tell me if ERM is one of these internet lingo things, or if that should be read literally? What does it mean? This one, whether it's an abbreviation or not, I've never understood. Help me out!

It's an expression of discomfort, as I see it. Or awkwardness. Erm... yeah. 😉

You can use the Dictionary pop-up (Ctrl, Command, D) over common acronymns like FUD or WTF and Tiger will tell you the definition.

Wow, I had no idea the dictionary was so hip! 😀 (and yes, I knew about the dictionary pop-up trick)
 
It took me about 3 months to figure out "IMHO" and "OTOH". I didn't know you could google for these things 😀

You can google for anything! (as long as people write it down) 😀
