Internet-By-Call in the UK?

Ok, I finally got my SGH D600 mobile (the modem) working with OS X.

Is there a provider which lets me just dial a number and enter a unified username and password so I can connect to the internet via my mobile without any hassle?

Can't you just dial the networks GPRS number? Usually *99#, username and password vary but can work blank.

It'll be faster that way - dial-up over mobile is horribly slow, and UK networks usually remove data calls from inclusive minutes.

Yes, there's a site here: http://www.taniwha.org.uk/gprs.html that gives you all the settings you need to sort it out.

I have a pre-payed mobile and I guess it's not possible to get an on-the-go internet access.

Pre-pay offers GPRS, though sometimes at very expensive rates (with the exception of Three, but for the sake of a simple life it's best to give them a wide berth).
