Hi, I wonder how much does macbook use data on yosemite while running, exluding surfing?

When I connected it with usb d link 3g modem, I saw quite huge data sucking in d link connection app.

I know that it has to check mail, make some connections for nottifciations atc, but is some way to stop all other connections except mails and safari while on usb modem connection or in tethering mode with iphone?

Thanks
