I no longer know what to do. My internet keeps dropping out for about 2 mins at a time. Sometimes it happens several times an hour, sometimes it won't happen for a week.

My ISP say there's no problem.

    - I've changed the router
    - I've rewired the phone socket
    - I've changed the phone/broadband splitter
    - I've changed from auto channel selection to manual and back to auto (although it happens on ethernet anyway)

I'm out of ideas of how to work out what this intermittent problem is. It's been going on for at least a year.

    Any advice appreciated.

Sounds like a problem I had a while back. Cablevision swore they checked everything. Fios guy was here and I asked him where the underground cable box was. He showed me the Cablevision one and it was all wet. Problem solved.

Good luck, I know how frustrating that is.

Most likely a bad node somewhere. The Cable co will never admit to it being their fault however.

Ok, so sounds like I need to insist my ISP come and look.

Shame there's no way of seeing a realtime internet connection. That was I could see how often it drops out and for how long.

I also had a brother that went trough the same thing. After months of calls about his Internet (like you are having) his TV started to expience bad snow. After some heated calls they sent Tech after Tech and they couldn't find the problem. Then after he threatened to go to the better business agency his ISP sent out a"Network Tech". He then went to the a Telephone poll box and found it was 25 years old and had three resistors on it from the last owner from 25 years ago. He removed the resistors and replaced the whole transfer box. His Internt and TV immediately went great!

So make sure your ISPs techs check the whole connection to the telephone box!

Call and tell them if they don't fix it within a week you are going to cut the service and switch ISP. Atleast I hope you have the option to switch.
