So I know that this new software update is supposed to allow wireless connection on 802.1x which is the connection used by most college campuses.

I haven't figured out how to use it though. I don't see the option on there.

Any help please?

Check with your campus IT dept. I'm at Univ. of Texas and they had a special page you could go to and it would install the network profile for me. Very simple.

but isn't there supposed to be a way to do it without installing something? I mean it should work right off the new iphone software right?

So... has anybody else been having this issue? I know like 50% of the apple community is in college! haha.

Where is the 802.1x!?

With the release of iPhone 2.0 software, the iPhone and iPod Touch now meet the minimum requirements for "osuwireless", the campus encrypted wireless network.

To manually connect:

1. From the home screen, tap Settings
2. Tap Wi-Fi
3. If you are in range of osuwireless...
Under "Choose a Network...", tap osuwireless
* Enter in your Username (lastname.#w) and password
* Tap Join.
* A certificate screen will appear. Confirm the certificate is valid by tapping the More Details button. If valid, tap Accept
4. If you are NOT in range of osuwireless...
Under "Choose a Network...", tap Other...
* For Name, type osuwireless
* For Security, choose WPA Enterprise, then click Other Network in the upper left
* Tap Username and type your lastname.#w
* Tap Password and type your password
* Tap Join.
* A certificate screen will appear. Confirm the certificate is valid by tapping the More Details button. If valid, tap Accept
