Hello everyone,

I wanted to start a fresh install of the OS just to clean things up. I went ahead and proceeded with the install by erasing the SSD and then going into recovery by installing the OS. The Mac pro shipped with mountain lion directly from Apple (first owner) during the installation process it kept asking to proceed with my Apple ID. It wouldn't let me follow through with the installation because I did not buy ML, but this should matter because it's what the computer shipped with.. I'm wondering why I am running into this issue and why I'm not getting the straight forward fresh install. I've done this before on the same machine and have not encountered this issue until now.

I booted the Mac both methods of command+R+option and also just by holding option by getting the recovery disks.. Both had the same outcome

Thanks in advance!

When you do the command-option-r boot do you see the spinning globe first indicating you are really in Internet recovery? If so, once the recovery screen comes up start Disk Util and select the drive brand name itself at the top (able Macintosh HD) and erase the entire disk to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). That will kill the previous recovery partition and should let you install the ML version from Internet Recovery.

Make sure you have a bootable backup or recovery key of some sort in case this does not work.
