I'm trying to share my macbook's internet connection received via airport to an xbox via the ethernet.

Here are the instructions:
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/17/how-to-share-your-macs-internet-connection-with-your-xbox/

The problem I'm having though is turning internet sharing on. I go to system preferences and select internet sharing from airport and then place a tick in the Ethernet option, yet it still comes up that its turned off with a red light next to it. I have entered my password etc.

Any ideas?

ethernet port on?

Is your ethernet port on?

Go to SYSTEM PREFs>NETWORK and make sure the ETHERNET port is on.

or, try a fresh start. create a new profile for your network settings.
SYSTEM PREFs>NETWORK
Locations: EDIT LOCATION
click the PLUS BUTTION
make up a name for the profile (ie: xbox360)

That resets your network settings to default without deleting the old ones.

You may need to enter password to the wireless network again.

Then go back to SYS PREFs > SHARING
Share your connection from AIRPORT
to (check off the box for) ETHERNET

after all that is said and done... restart your computer.

restart your x-box after the computer is up and running and see if that helps.

I have gone into network and with the xbox on it has lit up green under ethernet but under sharing I'm still unable to change it.

Thanks though for the help

Shouldn't need to be, but it may.

I can't help address the issue at hand but I can offer some advice:

Don't do an internet share to your X360. I used to, and it was just terrible most of the time, kept complaining of restricted NAT(even though the connections were just bridged) and I kept lagging on Xbox Live. If you really HAVE to have wireless access for the 360, I really recommend the overpriced but highly functional adapter.
