i have been using my mac for about 5 months now and have noticed my internet speed as well as system response has droped a bit do i have to defrag the hardrive like a pc ?

i just dont know what to do pages take longer to load then on my pc which is slower than my mac.

help !!!!!!!

Why don't you just get Onyx, Cocktail, or MacJanitor. Cocktail is not freeware, but the other two are. Any of the three may improve the performance of your computer.
 
there are standard osx housecleaning/upkeep tasks you can do. search these forums for 'fsck' and 'rebuild[ing] permissions'.

try those before a defrag.

also, do you leave your mac on all the time? or does it sleep? osx runs nightly, weekly and monthly processes that do some cleanup.

you can run them yourself if you want (they're all command-line programs in /etc, called daily, weekly, monthly (iirc). you have to be root.) easiest to leave the machine on the whole time.
