I was curious what others internet usage is at their home. I have Comcast, and when they implemented the 250 GB limit several years ago, we were told not to worry since no one would approach that amount, and after checking the meter, I assumed that they were a bit optimistic on that, but still well under.

I know that Comcast has suspended that cap, but I still check the usage. Our family of four (two adults and two teenagers) are now using between 375-450 GB a month.

My wife and two kids stream a ton of video, and I'm curious if others are using the same amount of data.

Thanks.

We use a similar amount - family of 5, although the kids are all 4 and under, but we stream most of the tv they watch. We also use the Time Warner app in our bedroom which counts as bandwidth on our router where I measure it, but not sure if Time Warner would count that if they were to ever want to limit it. That's probably the single-largest point of use.

Thanks for responding. The amount of usage we have is getting me concerned that at some point they will start to limit use. The problem with allowing the streaming to tablets and phones is that it makes is so much easier to watch television. The trade off is the data used. My sense is caps are coming.

Don't get me wrong, if I had Comcast I'd be worried they were coming back to! I had great relief when that merger fell through!

Still, I'm not totally convinced that caps are coming. They may or may not, but given the way that public pressure was able to turn around something like that merger, which from my inside contacts at Comcast was assumed to be a foregone conclusion until just days before it fell apart, I think that the backlash would be too severe if they were implemented in any onerous ways. I could be wrong. I hope not!

I think they're coming. Too many cord cutters out there and they need to maintain revenue.

I haven't looked at mine in a long time. We are fortunate enough to have service that allows for unlimited usage but the cost is speed varies on location. Luckily, we have no problems with streaming as we do so frequently in our household. I'd be scared to know how much we actually use per month!

Hmm. I used 355gb month before last and 250 last month. My cap is 450. It wouldn't be hard to hit it if there were more 4k content available!

Actually, what's coming is "charge for use". They add $10 for each 50 GB you go over the limit. I'm in their test market, and my limit is 300 monthly. I've hit 450 in one month. They tell you that you can adjust to a plan that meets your usage, but you can't find the limits anywhere on their website.

I hit a TB in May but that's the highest I've seen. I think caps are coming but I don't think they'll be very drastic just yet.

Yep... nothing but

our hosusehold uses Youtube like crazy on Apple TV network, Netflix, iTunes, HBO Now, and Apple music, podcasts and we still can't get up to our 250Gig a month limit. We don't have a cap
