I had a problem for a few days now fixing my hard drive, i tried to install bootcamp on my macbook pro and i got to the point where i couldn't repair or verify the disk and it wouldn't work at all...

i then read to try running my mac in single user mode, to repair the disk (command + s) on startup...

and tried typing /sbin/fsck -fy and multiple other things...

this outputted the message:

** Checking HFS Plus volume.
Invalid node structure
(3, 0)
Invalid B-tree node size
(3, 0)
Invalid record count
(3, 0)
Invalid B-tree node size
(3, 0)
** Volume check failed.

the only effect this had was that i could no longer startup the mac at all....which meant i'd effectively broke it..

i then had to transfer to my pc, and continue trying to fix the problem...

i also tried booting from both tiger and leopard disks to use disk utility and repair the disks, this also said invalid b-tree node size (3, 0)

i tried for hours to use alcohol and nero to burn bootable mac disks from a pc...

i found a solution and i'm posting to share it with people...

i used a program called disk warrior, and had to somehow burn this dmg file to a dvd in windows, as i had no blank cd's left, and it was quite urgent...

to do this i used a program called transmac, this allows mac files to be handled within a windows environment...i then burnt the dmg to a dvd from my pc...and then booted my mac up with the Shift key held....then booted from cd...

it takes about 10 minutes for disk warrior to run, but when it finally loads, all i had to do was select my hard drive, and click rebuild, and it rebuilt the entire file system without destroying any of my files...

i was almost about to give up and take it in for a repair, and i'm glad i didn't

i can't recommend disk warrior enough - its an absolute life saver, and where many other similar programs failed miserably, some even making things worse, disk warrior just did everything and made it all seem simple...

hope this helps people
