Interesting thread. I was just about to chime in with:

ps -er |head

but got beaten by sammich (ps -A).

Seems we still don't know why Activity Monitor wasn't showing that proc.

Because an average mum who just found out what the Activity Monitor is shouldn't be scared away with freakishly named print jobs, I suppose.

Another thing is that the command line is somewhat altered, this may have to do with that. The PostgreSQL server connections (which fork a process for themselves each) don't show in my Activity Monitor, either — and PostgreSQL alters cmdlines to be informative.

i love you sir. i love you as only a man loving magic words from the internet can.

all problems solved. the entire queue for that printer was deleted so i needed the link, but now its all back to normal cpu loading :D

Good to hear it's finally all sorted. I think I had a problem with a printer job killing a core, but it actually showed up under a process so it was a little easier to diagnose :)

I'm glad it all worked out. Here's the funny thing. In my half-sleep mode last night while researching this problem, I did a MRoogle search that turned up this thread, but after reading it, I thought, "no, it's not a printing problem", so for once, I didn't post the link.

Don't drive drunk. Don't post sleepy. :D

Worked for my MAC after trying to AirPrint

Thanks for the help .. Adding this text to the thread to help others find this very useful post.

"iStat nano show process that activity monitor does not".
