iOS 10.0.1 GM Bug Fixes And Changes

Think of a profile like getting a key to a door. It just gives access to the device for beta software.
 
You guys! I just re-installed the beta profile again and I checked for software updates... I'm getting iOS 10 (it doesn't say beta 7... it just says iOS 10 and lists all of the new features!)

I think this is the release that the public is getting on the 13th!

Beta profile as in developer beta profile or public beta profile?

Shipping them means they leave the factory and head to warehouses or distributors. There were claims of this already happening. Look around the Mac sites.

Do you realize how often Apple simply takes the last beta of a software, snips the beta build # letters and features (Feedback app, etc.), and releases that as the GM/public release?

See above. Obviously they have internal builds rolling that are't released to the public or even beta testers. iPhone 7's didn't ship with iOS 10.0.1.

So exactly how often does that happen (especially when it comes to major new versions associated with new hardware)?

Apple seems to have shipped iPhones much earlier than in prior years, maybe to get ahead of supply issues, to make up for lackluster iPhone sales earlier in the year. Obviously if phones already left factories in Asia, they would have had to been loaded with software prior to today.

Which doesn't really mean much one way or another as far as them being loaded with beta 8 or beta software in general.

At work so I can't install the GM but, is the option for notifications "Group By App" still not present in the GM?

Clearly you are making this up as you go along. Just because the phones "shipped" prior today (not 100% sure that's true), and the GM was released to the developers today, it doesn't mean that Apple did not release the GM version of iOS 10 to manufacturing earlier. The internal builds are weeks ahead of what we see... and the fact that the GM release is now noted to be iOS 10.0.1 would indicate that it's not the first version of the GM release candidate...

Regardless of how you try to spin it, Apple did NOT ship phones with a "beta" version of iOS.

I'd love to see the Settings > General > About screenshot on a new iPhone 7/7 Plus with a beta release build listed... as they say on the internet: "photo or it didn't happen".

Moving on now...

I can't believe they still haven't fixed that horrible grey placeholder in the Now Playing view/MiniPlayer or however it's called. They've added better looking placeholders everywhere else...

They really removed the star rating in music. I was hoping they would have added it back. That's a disappointment.
I guess we should have known when Apple removed half star ratings a couple of years ago... smh
 
Since this thread is way bigger the iOS version is 10.0.1, a moderator here needs to change the title of the thread.
 
Anyone have a stuck Software Update badge in Settings?

I have a 1 stuck in front of General. And in front of Software Update.

Can confirm if you remove your public beta profile and then redownload it (I just did a google search for "ios beta profile") it will give you the GM after rebooting your phone! Enjoy! Thank you Jayson!

You are actually installing the Developer profile. The Public profile wont get this update even if its reinstalled.

You're welcome. I just wanted to install Public Beta 7 again. I didn't know it was going to be any different. I was pleasantly surprised!

That's why beta was referred to as "Beta 8". If you really think Apple releases a final beta, decides it's good enough for public release, and then intentionally changes feature of the software, solely to remove the beta identifier in the build name, then you are wrong. I know for a fact that a final beta and GM and public release have all had identical content from an IPSW perspective in the past.

Obviously Apple wouldn't ship a commercial product with an actual beta build of iOS, as denoted by the build number. My comment was that Apple can release a build of iOS, and name it whatever the heck they want. People get so hung over a "beta" versus GM versus public release, when in fact, some final beta 5's have been more stable than public releases.

EDIT: The above is fact, not an educated guess. Beta 8 was finalized for release and that's what landed on the 7's being shipped as we speak. It's 10.0.0, not 10.0.1. Beta 8 was the "GM" (or whatever you want to call it). 10.0.1 will drop almost immediately following iOS 10's public release to coincide with when the 7's go on sale. There is a reason 10.0.1 is being released and 10.0.0 was skipped, it was just too late to change this out for phones already completing production.
