You gotta be kidding me. Is this still happening in 10.3? I was about to update from 10.2.1 because I have the same issue.

This has been present on every single version of iOS, since the beginning. All it means is there is a rogue stuck processor. Any computer can have it happen, on any OS.

First, reset the device. If that doesn't work, try a hard reset. If that doesn't work start deleting apps until you find the one that has gone rouge. If you use Facebook or Messenger, start there. They are notorious for running in the background even if the app is closed, Background App Refresh is off and push notifications are off.
Sometimes Mail goes rogue and you need to delete the mail accounts and re-add them. Also, try toggling the News App in iCloud settings. That has also been known to go rogue.

Don't have time ATM to read through a thread to look for your troubleshooting steps, sorry. But have you tried what I suggested? Do you have FB or Messenger installed? Have you toggled News? Have you deleted mail accounts?
6 hours in total. I think I used the phone for about 2 hours in that time. But under the battery info. It showed 6 hours usage, 6 hours standby. Seems like there's a background process which is eating up all the processor cycles.

Just as the person above, you have a rogue app or processor. Has nothing to do with the specific beta. This can happen on virtually any piece of software that exists.

I think its an IOS 10 BETA issue. it started for me on BETA 1 and remains in BETA 2. I even tried using the IOS Mail app though the behavior is not exactly the same I get delayed messages etc...

News is not available in my country, I deleted my mail accounts, signed out of iCloud completely and resigned in. I also, turned off all background refresh apps and deleted any recent apps I had downloaded in the past month. I've yet to try the FB app but I doubt it's the culprit as I barely even open it. I'm deleting it right now just in case.
The problem only goes away with rebooting the phone but reoccurs usually after 2 days no matter what. It's really frustrating and I fail to see how this is "normal behavior" for any OS really, I believe it's more due to Apple's incompetence as of lately than anything else.

It has nothing to do with Apple being incompetent. Every single Operating System in the world suffers from this. Processors go rogue. Its literally that simple. If rebooting makes it go away for a few days, then there is something installed on your phone that you use that keeps getting stuck.
It's not a a background app issue as the issue happened in low power mode as well. Regarding the processor, the issue didn't happen in 10.2.1 or even 10.3 beta 1.

Just because you didn't experience it in 10.2.1 or B1, doesn't mean its not a thing. I first started experiencing the issue in iOS 4. I've experienced it on Windows, OS X and macOS. Its not hard for a processor to get stuck in the background, even if the apps have been closed out. The hard part is finding that processor. If you are using a Mac, download Xcode and run the instruments program. It will tell you what processors are running and you might be able to find the rogue on. I once had the App Store running at 75% CPU and was stuck. That was the cause of my problem.
You and applyr both think its a bug, but I'm saying its normal for this to occur. Its not ideal, but its not a bug or due to incompetence.

We're talking about a mobile system OS here and iOS in specific which is supposed to be super efficient and sophisticated in terms of the background processes it allows to run.
I'm using iPhone since the 3G and never had this happen before and now you're telling me that all of a sudden some app decides to go rogue every couple of days and the iOS is unable to terminate it as it should be able to do. How's that not iOS and Apple's fault then?

If you have a Mac, run Xcode and instruments. You will find your problem. No piece of software is without flaws, but that does not make it a bug. Are you saying macOS is less sophisticated and iOS, so its okay if it happens on that, but not iOS? You are looking for someone to blame, but there is no reason to blame anyone. I want you to find a single piece of software that doesn't occasionally freeze or have things get stuck. Its impossible.
It's not just an issue with me. I have seen many people reporting the issue in this thread. I reported this to a wellknown apple reviewer zollotech. He reported the same. So it's not just a one off issue

I'm not saying that, I'm saying that these things matter a lot more with mobile OSes because battery life is important. Seriously, I wouldn't care as much if a process was stuck running in the background on a desktop OS but having my iPhone draining battery life like it's nothing while being in standby is unacceptable.

And as I said, I first noticed in 6 years ago. There is nothing that can be done because its not truly a bug. A processor getting stuck is not something Apple can fix. Thats my point. Its not a software bug, its just something that didn't close out properly. But unlike a Mac, we don't have a Force Quit option and Activity monitor to see if something is indeed stuck. The best we can do is Xcode and Instruments to monitor.
I get what you are saying, but to say its incompetence and Apple should be blamed is just wrong. I'm not defending Apple because I'm a fanboy, I'm defending Apple because in this instance, there is literally nothing they could do to prevent this from happening. The only thing they could do is implement and activity monitor and add a force quit option to terminate rogue processors. Until then, Xcode is the best available.

Yep I got it again as well. I deleted the backups on iCloud and will see if it runs successfully now since its a full new backup.

I'm having really good battery life on this beta. Better than anything I've had on any software yet. I used to have to plug in my 7+ at least once a day to make it to the evening time but now I can make it all day and only get down to 20% or so. I had even bought a battery case and now it's almost not needed. Very happy about this.
