Ever since updating my iPad Air 2 to iOS 10.0.1 (and now 10.0.2), I have had a heck of a time getting the safari gesture for forward page to function. I often have a hard time getting the iPad to distinguish this from the multitasking panel, so I have disabled multitasking, but am still having issues with swiping from right to left to move the Safari page forward.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Same issue here. Seems to be a bug.
I've always found this function clashes with the spit screen multi tasking but it used to work if swiping near top or bottom of screen.
Under ios 10 I can't get it to work at all.

Do the page forward gesture in the upper third or the lower third of the screen. Doing it right in the middle will pull out the multitasking panel instead.

That's not the issue. I've been doing that since iOS 9, but on iOS 10 it doesn't work the majority of the time. Occasionally swiping from the top or bottom of the side will go forward, but probably 70% of the time it just does nothing.

didn't realize this was happening as i had been using chrome since 9.3.5.

so now on 10.0.2 (ipad 12.9), i went to check on safari and whaddaya know, it's a safari issue. chrome works fine (swipe top and bottom third of the right edge does page forward perfectly; the little gray split screen tab doesn't even show). on safari, it's really hit and miss; most times it will bring out the split screen column; and on the times that it does do the page forward, the little gray tab still shows like it's trying to do both forward and split screen o_O

I did more testing on this and noticed something...
The page forward gesture NEVER works for me if I use a fingertip, anywhere on the right of the iPad screen.
But...

If you use a 'flat' finger (swipe with your finger flat to the screen so more skin comes into contact with it) near the top (just under the tabs) or the very bottom of the screen it works pretty much every time.

So it's still broken and Apple need to fix it but at least this is a bit of a workaround.

Just tried this. It works (as long as you have a page to go forward to of course).

Not sure what you mean by flat finger? I used the entire portion of my finger until the first knuckle and it still isn't reliable for me.

Make sure you have a page to go forward to. Instead of using my finger tip, I'm using the whole pad of my finger from the tip to the knuckle.

That's what I was doing. It still isn't reliable for me. About as reliable as just using my fingertip.

Oh well. :/
Try it on the top part away from the center. I'd say it works 3 out of 4 times. Not ideal though.

The first time I tried it, I didn't actually have a page to go forward to. It obviously didn't work, and I felt a little silly for a second.

That's where I've been doing it, even with the tip of my finger. Right below the tab.

Works pretty much every time for me. Either just below tabs or bottom of screen. Tried on a small iPad pro and an Air 2.
Definitely only a workaround though and I hope they did it in next patch. Astonishing that issue is still there tbh.

...oh and slowing the swipe gesture seems to help...

"flat finger" works for me. Alternatively two-fingers also works - use the fingertips of two fingers held right next to each other as if the fingers were bandaged together.

It does seem to be that the gesture now needs more skin contact than a single fingertip provides. Pretty shocking that such a basic issue could stay unfixed in however many releases we've had since it was first messed up.
