iOS 10 Developer Beta 5
Build Number: 14A5335b
Darwin Kernel Version 16.0.0: Fri Aug 5 22:15:30 PDT 2016; root:xnu 3789.1.24~11\/RELEASE_ARM64_S8000
Firmware Version: iBoot-3406.1.77

Release Notes:
https://beta.applebetas.tk/notes/ios/10.0/beta5.pdf

Please report bugs to bugreport.apple.com (a developer account is not required to do this).

Please only post new bugs, changes and bug fixes in the appropriate categories and subsections of this post.

Changes:
  • New Lock sound
  • Louder keyboard clicking sound
  • Date is now shown on Widget screen when accessed from Home Screen and is also smaller
  • 3rd Party Widgets without iOS 10 optimization are a lot darker now to make the white text more readable.
  • The "music output" icon at the bottom of the Now Playing screen has changed
  • 6s Modem Firmware updated from 2.25.00 to 2.30.00
  • AT&T Carrier Version updated from 24.5.53 to 25.0, Verizon from 24.5.41 to 25.0
  • Accessing the camera from the lockscreen is easier
  • Updated moisture contact indicator screen
  • Updated device icons in control center in "music output" option
  • "Home" tab in Settings removed on iphones
  • Changed homescreen layout
  • Lookup placeholder screen updated
  • emoji guy with turban changed
  • Option for no sound as alarm in the clock app
  • New wallpaper in the "Home" app
  • Swift app for ipad is now split into two sections
  • Reduce White Point defaults at 25% now, instead at 80% in previous betas
  • Speech sections updated
  • Arabic dictionary removed
  • On iPad, the keyboard buttons for handwriting and hide keyboard in the Messages app have been switched. The hide keyboard button is now in the bottom right corner like in every other app.

Bugs (please don't post existing bugs):

  • Dock is buggy on iPad Pro 12.9 and iPad Air & iPad Air 2 (may be all models), tilt iPad towards you and see the background of dock disappear, move it away and the dock background refills. Also it blacks out at times, a restart does not solve this. Seeing this also on 6S+ and 6+. Solved temporarily by turning on "Reduce Transparency" in Accessibility settings.
  • Home screen icons that are force-pressed on 6s can become misaligned for a split-second after looking at the Today view. (Using 3D Touch on an icon and moving the device will cause the blurred background to move separately from the actively pressed icon, and going back to the home screen shows that icon in the wrong place for a short time. It doesn't happen on a fresh boot, but appears after sliding to the Today view on the left and then using 3D Touch).
  • 3D menu in phone app does not dial a contact unless its added as a widget. Then it works.
  • Using 3D touch on Notes.app and then tapping on a note listed in the widget does not do anything (i.e. the note is not brought up as you would expect).
  • Music options on iTunes such as Start and Stop time, Volume Adjust settings done on iTunes does not get synced over to iPhone/iPad's Music App
(If you select a song on iTunes and Cmd + I to bring up the details sheet
Go under Options to change for instance the Start and Stop time and Volume Adjust
After syncing with iPhone, the options does not get applied/carried over
Eg. Song A had been adjusted to start from 1:00 and end at 2:10 in iTunes and iTunes play it from 1:00 and ends it at 2:10(Correct Behaviour)
But when synced over to iPhone, the Music app does not start playing the song at 1:00 and end it at 2:10
The same bug applies for Volume Adjust)

Bug Fixes:
  • Blank Quick Reply screen seems fixed.
  • Ad Blockers now work correctly and leave no whitespace where the adverts should be
  • "Auto enhance" feature when editing photos no longer makes photos look overexposed and washed out (bug from beta 4).
  • Hands-Free Prompt for Maps Navigation is back. It was missing since Beta 3
  • Broken and/or slow Spotlight Search appears to have finally been fixed for RAM-starved devices (1GB devices like iPhone 6 and earlier)

Things to Watch For:
  • Will they add "love" button in CC as well as lock screen when playing music? Oh, and will they add star rating back? (Not on lock screen)
  • Has the cellular/Wifi connectivity issue been resolved? Fixed for 6s. With Stable Wifi Connectivity. No signal drops intermittently.

This is by far the quietest update ever. I don't even think the release today is the case.

Mostly for me though.

Meh, updates come out mostly between Monday -> Wednesday. We are getting too close to the event to not go weekly.

I think the real question is, did it release for PB as well. Then you know we are getting close.

No, most likely this is it for another 2-3 weeks. 1 more beta. Then GM.

I think we may get two more. One next week, one the following week and then a 2 week break until the event with the GM.

Unless they are so confident we get one next week and a 3 week break till event.

Can anyone tell me if they have fixed Sky Sports app, previously it would not allow me to scroll with adverts stuck at top after opening an article!

Or maybe they will move to a three week cycle, meaning a beta 6 / GM on 8/29 and final release on the week of 9/12.

The reality is...we have no idea. They have broken so many "rules" with the iOS 10 beta program, I am hesitant to guess at all any more. We could have 1 more beta, 2 more betas, no more betas, etc.... You can make arguments for all those positions, hence they are arguments for none of those positions. Simply put: it is what it is.

I wonder if/when they make it possible to set different apps as default for mail/browser etc, since there were some tweets about that coming from devs right after the keynote, but until now you could only delete stock apps.

Something weird happened: It downloaded the update, started to install and suddenly the screen stayed black for about 40 seconds. Afterwards, it showed my Homescreen.
Apparently, the update was not installed since I'm downloading again.
This had never happened to me before.

broke "rules" that never existed?
Hence my use of quotation marks. However, rules can be discerned from empirical observation. However, it requires a lot more data points than we have (less than 2 years of data) for anyone to have said there are hard and fast rules about betas or their release dates. There were patterns, but nothing more than that.

i think this is the last beta until the GM in September. hopefully I'm wrong
Why do you hope that? Just curious

You can think whatever you want, but as Apple begins to tighten up for release, they release fewer/less frequent betas. Not more.
