The new and updated features included in iOS 10 are plentiful, and Apple users and developers have already begun to voice their opinions of a number of them online. Many testers have come away impressed by new, personalized additions to old apps like Photos, the new raise-to-wake feature, and subtle but useful additions to Maps, which can now remember where you parked your car.

Of course, where there are positives, there are negatives as well, so we've gathered up user reactions on a few of the new features of iOS 10 and attempted to bring in variety of opinions on each where possible while gauging overall sentiment from early users.

Parked Car Notifications

Reaction: Largely Positive

A new feature in iOS this year will allow Apple Maps to remember where users park their cars, which should be helpful when parking in large structures and garages. One iOS 10 beta tester noted the feature popping up at their home (which should eventually be prevented once a home address is entered) with a notification on the iPhone's lock screen.

Nice touch Apple! Can see this being useful for festivals, shopping and more!
Once in the Maps app, a small Parked Car icon appears where you left your car, and a separate sheet can be filled out to add details like a photo of the car's location and even a text note to jot down a description of the area or level of the parking garage you were in. Some users call the new parked car notifications a "catch-up feature," since Android and apps like Waze have offered similar functions for the past few years, but otherwise the reaction is an encouragingly bright one.

Colour me old-fashioned, but I use my memory to remember where I parked my car. However, I appreciate that Apple is providing assistance to those who have memory issues or who lack spatial awareness.

Photo memories? Why can't we just have Events back? That was so easy to use, and filed our photos sensibly, rather than having a continuous wadge of them.

Font size? I don't mind the large font, but I do hate the red font and the excessive white space. I wish we could have olive set as a default background for all apps.

Can't argue with the points in the article. However, when I imagine what might have been skipped over in order to provide the functions with positive reactions, all I can think is, "Really, thats the best Apple has!". Sure i'll take the functions listed with positive responses, but I'll never really use said functionality. The negative stuff (i.e. font size) yep that effects me, sleep analysis, not at all. I don't need a device to tell me if I get a good nights sleep.

As someone who at one time loved the iPhone, I honestly have to ask how you people have not jumped ship yet? Once I switched to Android around 4 years ago, I never looked back. The iPhone is a complete and utter joke. iOS is an abomination. And even the hardware is lacking waaaaay behind. How is it 2016 and the iPhone still has no IR blaster!?!?

fonts are awful and it stinks they did a half ass implementation of the sleep tracker. I understand it not actually tracking sleep but at least make it easy to use manually.

I'd bet that the sleep analysis feature is in early days and will progress as we get into later betas - after all it's named sleep analysis not sleep calendar. It could also be that it isn't able to do analysis until it sets a baseline. The sleep analysis app I use, Sleep Cycle, warned me that it wouldn't be able to provide statistics until I'd used the app for 5 days. After that learning phase it's worked great.

In the new beta, if you’ve touched the lockscreen at all, using Touch ID will unlock the phone, but not open it. Instead, you first have to scan your finger, and then hit the home button to unlock your phone. It’s the opposite of what Apple has been training us to do for years, and it feels glitchy and bad.

Not a good idea, imo.

I bet the extra home button presses induce home button failures...?

I'm not sure I'm going to like this change.

My Nokia N97 had an IR blaster.

I now have proper multi function remotes and even though I could use my iPhone to control to home cinema properly, without having direct line of sight, its still much better and easier to use a tactile device with a single function, not a phone.

Assuming the 'Parked Car' feature uses GPS, how exactly is that going to work in 90% of multi story concrete and steel car parks? I'm confused about this one?

You must be new here. Those 90% of multi story concrete and steel car parks that refuse to be compatible with Apple's plans are now evil anti progress dinosaurs and must be boycotted until they modify their structures to allow the GPS signals through.

Just like how all the non-Apple pay retailers need to be boycotted.

We laugh at Samsung for copying - to avoid being hypocrites we should at least acknowledge when Apple takes features from other companies

You're saying it like this is new with iOS 10. Google and Apple have been incorporating each others mobile operating system advancements into their own software since Android actuslly got useable circa 2011.

Because there is simply no better ecosystem.

Android? Sure, but I actually like yearly updates and a non-fragmented OS where I don't have to develop for 500 different screen sizes.
