I understand this a change for the "better" since people with vision problems will have an easier time, but it does come at the price of disgusting people with good eyesight who would rather see more information at once.

well just wait a year or two..you will join us....every one does

We laugh at Samsung for copying - to avoid being hypocrites we should at least acknowledge when Apple takes features from other companies

and how much technology did these companies borrow from Apple in the first place? no one was doing smart phones with any success, but when Apple did it...everyone followed, yet no one gets dinged for following suit in your opinion? Just apple?

Good thing Jony Ive's in charge of the UI and Software. That font size and boldness is laughable and obnoxious, whomever came up with that should be demoted to app review or fired, whomever approved that change should also be there too.

so before people complained it was too thin, and now people are saying its too thick? Ok, Red Riding Hood....Ok...

I personally hated the thin font (esp in maps) that you couldn't see in bright sunlight
[doublepost=1466014792][/doublepost]
The thing is, it's not simplified! It didn't look any easier to use, the font being so big only looks stupid, and it doesn't really solve THE problem!

I beg to differ. The font style is right on point with design trends of the day. Check out CNN video shorts....same treatment

Apple usually messes around with font styles and a few little tweaks in the first couple of betas, then changes it before final release. I would be a little patient with the Beta, I'm sure they will polish it up a little bit.

As someone who at one time loved the iPhone, I honestly have to ask how you people have not jumped ship yet? Once I switched to Android around 4 years ago, I never looked back. The iPhone is a complete and utter joke. iOS is an abomination. And even the hardware is lacking waaaaay behind. How is it 2016 and the iPhone still has no IR blaster!?!?

I switched and then switched back. The Nexus 5 was nice for an inexpensive phone. I dealt with the quirks and random battery killing processes because it was a lower cost phone. I was ready to get a Nexus 6 for the same cost [1], instead Google raised the price to flagship levels and the iPhone came out with a large screen. After switching back, I wondered why I ever left. The iPhone experience is just so much better.

[1] The Nexus devices are the only ones I will consider because they actually get updates and do not have carrier / device maker crapware installed.

I discovered something new. Or at least I think it's new
In the work out app (Apple Watch only) there is a map now and the weather stats.

So it's a pretty useless feature that won't really work then? Unless you park on the top level or use an outside car park.
Dude, it's especially made for parking in an unfamiliar area... for example your in a city you've never been before, park your car and enjoy your day. Now you can track where you have parked your car.

It's not meant for finding your car in a multi-story car park.....

I seriously had to explain that? Wow.

You don't understand. Unless a feature solves EVERY PROBLEM IN THE UNIVERSE, and does so EXACTLY THE WAY I WANT then it is obviously utterly useless!!!
If Steve Jobs were still alive, iPhones would come with a shaped charge explosive that would blow a hole through parking garage walls so that the phone could damn well get that GPS information!

More seriously, there are some interesting (and not yet answered) technical questions surrounding this.

(a) Since at least iPhone6, we have had a barometer in these devices that was supposed to be used to detect height, specifically which floor of a building you were on. But this has never actually been used. Likewise we've been promised indoor mapping information for years and that's still not real. Not blaming Apple here --- no-one else has any version of these worth a damn either.
But one COULD imagine a future where car parks (along with other buildings) have BT beacons in them, and so the problem could technically be solved. Presumably in five years or so we'll be on our way to that.

(b) iPhones have had the ability to know that they were in "car mode" for some time now (and thus change some behavior appropriately). But that detection of "car mode" has always been based on detecting a Car Play hookup. In principle Apple could allow the presence of any BT access point to define "I am now in my car", and hook "car mode" functionality off that. It would be nice if this were part of iOS10, but I honestly don't know.

Colour me old-fashioned, but I use my memory to remember where I parked my car. However, I appreciate that Apple is providing assistance to those who have memory issues or who lack spatial awareness.

It's really useful at music festivals and other big events, especially when returning to the car at night. I've always used a third-party app for this in the past and I can do it at the moment with Audi's MMI Connect app but this is a horrendous battery-draining app when using location services. It'll be nice to have this facility built in to iOS.

Wasn't there a massive lawsuit against Samsung regarding swipe to unlock, and now Apple gets rid of it?
The lawsuit wasn't about swipe to unlock. It was about Samsung's wholesale copying of a huge number of details of the iPhone's look, feel, and user interface. The judge insisted they narrow it down to a handful of issues so as to not overwhelm the jurors. Slide-to-unlock was one of the specific features chosen to pursue.

what he said!!! design-trained eyes
Well, I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, but I do have a BFA in graphic design and do web and app design for a living. And I typically find myself aligned with the more minimalistic aesthetic that Apple has historically been known to strive for. Furthermore, I've been told typography is one my strong suits. So yeah, if sitting through critiques for three hours several times per week for the better part of three years counts, then I have design-trained eyes, lol. And this doesn't bother me.

Thanks for your condescension, so I'll add some of my own. It's amazing that you remember where you park your car all the time, but for those of us who travel and park in places like long term airport lots for business, this is useful, as well as for people who work in the field for something like multi-location consulting firms or client services of virtually any type. Congratulations on your superiority and cozy cubicle, though.

Huh? I travel way to much. Some years I have more days in a hotel than home. I park, note location in Evernote with a photo and have it available on any device I want. Print it if I want.
I can see this being good for quick parking in a mall, shopping, or similar if needed. Apps like these have been around. Apple built it in. Big deal? No.
Next.

And people used to memorise phone numbers or jot them down in a little black book.

So for all of us non-touch ID people, Apple wants us to ruin our home buttons. Having to press it EVERYTIME I want to unlock my iPod seems so dumb. It won't last. And a physical click followed by putting in the password most of the time seems like such a bother and such a waste of time.

This is how it works on the iPod touch right? So dumb.

The minority getting shafted for the majority. Expected more from Apple.

Assuming the 'Parked Car' feature uses GPS, how exactly is that going to work in 90% of multi story concrete and steel car parks? I'm confused about this one?
It won't work, at least not well. Not everything is made for apolloa and his multi story, concrete and steel, car parking structure needs.

Did the alarm section change at all? Rising tone? or Some method of enter in a pattern or code to unlock alarm? Perhaps a "sunlight" style alarm to help you wake up slowly? Thanks

The new and updated features included in iOS 10 are plentiful, and Apple users and developers have already begun to voice their opinions of a number of them online. Many testers have come away impressed by new, personalized additions to old apps like Photos, the new raise-to-wake feature, and subtle but useful additions to Maps, which can now remember where you parked your car.

Of course, where there are positives, there are negatives as well, so we've gathered up user reactions on a few of the new features of iOS 10 and attempted to bring in variety of opinions on each where possible while gauging overall sentiment from early users.

Parked Car Notifications

Reaction: Largely Positive

A new feature in iOS this year will allow Apple Maps to remember where users park their cars, which should be helpful when parking in large structures and garages. One iOS 10 beta tester noted the feature popping up at their home (which should eventually be prevented once a home address is entered) with a notification on the iPhone's lock screen.

Once in the Maps app, a small Parked Car icon appears where you left your car, and a separate sheet can be filled out to add details like a photo of the car's location and even a text note to jot down a description of the area or level of the parking garage you were in. Some users call the new parked car notifications a "catch-up feature," since Android and apps like Waze have offered similar functions for the past few years, but otherwise the reaction is an encouragingly bright one.

I had an Android phone. "Parked car" is Meh.
It could be a useless feature for those that park on an inner level of a parking garage. But for the many people that don't, it will be very useful.

If it works similar to Google, it's not that good. First, the precision is not there. Second, it relies on a combination of movement and stop time. It was not unusual if I was right on time for my train for google to not realize I was stopped until I got downtown and started walking to the office.

Apple was reported to have been working on some sort of indoor mapping feature. Could be what this is for. No idea how they plan to deploy it though.

I dunno man... while it hasn't been in a "Parked Car" notification by name, every time I get into my car and sit down a notification appears and tells me how long my drive is to work, or to home or on the weekends to other places... so they've just taken this already existing functionality and gave it an icon... It's something I've had going on since at least my 5S 2 and a half years ago.

And yes, sometimes others do things first. Your photos point is a perfect example. But it's also an example of Apple doing them right - on device. Not Google robbing my photos from me and adding them to their image search, forcing me to write *thousands* of take-down requests.... never again will I allow google access to anything personal of mine, no cloud storage, no photos, nada.

It's a useless feature unless you park outside or on the top level. GPS really doesn't work through reinforced concrete very well.... and their are an awful lot of these car parks around, especially in city's and towns which are the place it would be useful, but instead it won't be. A possible pointless feature.

Yeah... The cool thing about GPS is that it isn't a single satellite, directly over your head. Rather, it's 31 satellites at various degrees in the sky so when you're in one of those "reinforced concrete" parking garages -- you know, the ones with wide open sides for ventilation -- chances are you're going to be achieving the advertised accuracy of within X meters. Even with an underground garage you're going to have a system that, bare minimum, knows your point of entry, and the fact you can make a note to provide specifics...... well, it just shows you're complaining about nothing.

GPS yes, but try doing that in rain, storms and such...

Personally i'd rather just walk and get the exercise for 2 hours to find my car and use GPS for navigation only, but then i never go to big parking lots either.

This may be a bit off topic, but has anyone else had an issue taking a screenshot in iOS 10 beta 1? The normal method of pressing the Sleep button and the Home button at the same time brings me to the "slide to power off screen".

Yes. I had to press home and side button at exactly the same time for exactly the same amount of time.
