hi 1st post so be gentle :)

after switching provider who uses the same network as my previous one, not changing phone use routines and/or settings that have been the same for over 4 years at my 1st invoice I suddenly would have exceeded my data plan by over 1 Gb.
I have a month average of under 900 Mb since I am on wifi 99% of the time. every option to use cellular data for updates downloads, background refresh, backups or anything that could data hog are turned off. I had an average nightly data use of 2 sessions nightly per month with max 19 Mb per month i guess those were call home sessions for system, app store and whatsapp. now I suddenly had - 27x data use between 2400 and 0800: total 641,41 Mb
of that 20x data use between 1:41 and 7.30. Total 582,12 Mb.

according to my knowledge that is impossible with the settings mentioned before. is there an ios guru who can confirm that?

I am not the only one who had this happen to at the first invoice its thousands of people they try to rip off like this.

    help greatly appreciated

Could you take a screenshot (or screenshots if it's too long) of your 'Mobile Data' usage list? That includes System Services.

I'm referring to the part in Settings > General > Mobile Data. Unless you manually reset that, it shouldn't be reset.

It will also reset when inserting a new SIM. If he replaces his sim, that static will reset. iOS does not delete those records from your device though.

He could insert old sim back to see the data.

I reset that manually at the start of every new cycle. invoice comes 2 weeks later ;-( if system services were over 20 mb i would have noticed.

Then your old data is likely gone.
I never reset, and leave it be. Therefore I know I have used 130GB mobile data in the term of two years.

Why would you reset manually before you receive the invoice? Makes no sense. At least make a screenshot before resetting so you can compare the phone data with that on the invoice.

Depending on quality iOS sees coming from WiFi it can supplement with cellular data.

I had trouble with iOS 9 and before with a 5S and then 6S+ but not with iOS 10. I also replaced router too.

AT&T rolls over data that wasn't used and my plan has gone from 2GB to 6GB. With rollover I've got 10GB to play with and never used more than 2GB, usually more like less than 1GB. We had Internet outage a couple weekends and used the phone as got spot.

Just one MacOS beta dl would use ~1.5GB

Internet here is $60/mo for 50-60Mb which has 400GB cap. My first month on Netflix I burned through 7GB/hr and my quota for the month in couple of weeks

Secure routers and good firmware, that still gets updates, is important to me too.

Check in Mobile settings, scroll down to the bottom, is WiFi Assist on?
