Hi guys, since the last whatsapp update, when I get a new message on WhatsApp all I see for recipient is "message". No contact name or number. Is this a jailbreak issue?

I can see the contact name if I enable "show preview" in whatsapp settings. But I don't want to see the message preview just the contact name.

I checked the iPhone privacy settings for whatsapp and contacts are enabled.

Any idea what's happened?

Bump up guys please before I risk reinstalling whatsapp and losing all my existing chats

Can't help with the glitch unfortunately, but you can save WhatsApp chats before reinstalling the app with iMazing (iTunes alternative) if you won't be able to get any other solution. It will allow you to restore only apps backup without wiping the device and shouldn't affect jailbreak (haven't tried it though). Also, this option is free in their trial version, so you won't lose anything.

Tip: after deleting and resintalling WhatsApp don't open it, restore apps data first (idk why, just a tip from mailing with their sup team).

Thanks mate. How do I restore apps data?

I deleted the app and reinstalled but that didn't work.

Found this guide on their website, it describes how to extract app's data from a backup and restore it. When extracting app's data (.imazingapp file), just change the switch to "Extract from last backup" instead of "Back Up and extract data".

Let me know if there will be any troubles with it.

Right, tried this method. Unfortunately it didn't work. But thanks for the info mate.

I've also contacted WhatsApp. They replied back a few times and have now just stopped replying. I don't think even they know what's wrong. The thing is, from my research I'm not the only one.

Right! Sorted. From now on, name only option is only available to iOS 11. Now, why couldn't the advisor have told me that within the first million emails the other day!!!

Thanks for all your help Minorite

Well, sometime you look for the hard way and don't remember the changelog even when you work in sup... :) p.s. Were you able to restore your chats?

Yup. Chats all restored. As for the advisor, honestly it literally was a case of him not reading my messages. I must have told him at least 5 times I was on iOS 10, yet he kept referring to iOS 11 instructions.

Don't get me wrong, people make mistakes, but to constantly get it wrong, and then to not even reply to my emails for 2 days. thats not on.

Crap, in that case I think they really need a new sup agent... I used to work in sup and know how hard it can be sometimes to not f**up if you have a flow of over 200+ tickets per day, but if user pointed to your mistake several times is just stupid. I think he's just afraid to answer you again :)

p.s. Glad to hear that at least your data is safe!

Update: after all of the above, it seems the advisor was (and I shall put this mildly) bluffing!! I updated WhatsApp today and guess what??? Yup. I can now see just the sender's name without needing to see the preview!

I'm minded to complain to WhatsApp. But then chances are the same type of concern will be given to the way they dealt with my original query and it'll just be swept under the carpet!
