No but he doesnt run a tight ship. Clearly.

More worried about bottom line than refined products, when refined products are still important

He allows sloppy Call of Duty type iOS releases to happen, because they still sell (not iOS of course, but devices running on iOS)

-part of the problem
Because it's not like there were releases like iOS 4 that actually practically crippled some iPhone models to the point that Steve Jobs had to address it publicly saying that a future software update would resolve the issues?

Before doing a full restore you could try resetting the settings, you will obviously lose all settings but sometimes that will fix weird stuff but you keep all the data.

True but 2G/3G being parity is probably what resulted in that. Same soc and ancient next tov3gs which was closer performance to 4 than its predecessor by a large margin

Cook's apple is consistently and reliably sloppy year after year

That's not to say apple was ever fault FREE but

It's outta control to where iOS buggyness is noticeable to non observant types

If you are saying that there were always some issues here and there but it feels like there are more now, there can certainly be something to it.

That said, part of the question there would be how does a much much more expanded user base and device availability and variability affect it all. Like that example with differences between chipsets, architecture, etc. playing a role in some significant issues when it came to some uodates. In a perfect world it would be great if it didn't, but that's not the reality.

Of course this isn't to say that issues are good or it's OK that they exist or anything like that. Simply that a lot of it can be more along the lines of progression of a much more expanded consumer base, product base, as well as added complexity of the OS and ecosystem overall.

Now, even with that it can be that things are still worse off to some degree nonetheless, and certainly there are more than likely that various improvements that can be made on Apple's part to help with that, as can be basically said of most software and tech (or otherwise) companies out there, realistically speaking. Still, that wouldn't bring perfection or even anything close to it--it can improve things, but it would be more on an iterative type of scale rather than something more dramatic.

iOS backups backup your phone contents and user settings and not a whole image of the system.

Ah, okay. I guess after 10 years of iPhone-ing and being an IT guy, I should know that by now lol.

I did a fresh install with an IPSW and restored. Seems to be much, much better, even during the time period it was restoring. Thank you so much!

I am glade I was able to help!
Now that you know, please spread the knowledge to other people in need!

Wishing you the best!

Back up your iphone, preferably from itunes since it will be much faster restoring later, reset it to factory settings, do any upgrades you need to, and after that choose restore from backup from itunes. It will put back everything you had before, including messages, photos etc, but if everything goes well, it will make your phone to operate normally. I did this when i upgraded to ios 11, went from dreadful performance to a super snappy 6s.
I think you have to update first and THEN backup to iTunes. I believe I lost things when I tried to restore from a backup in an old iOS version....

Yes it just shows some people see/care about issues and some don't. Doesn't mean that they are not there and shouldn't be fixed.
Or it shows that some people notice improvements in the issues they were seeing and that in general people can and do have differences when it comes to what issues they might have and/or to what degree. Nothing at all was said or even implied about those who are experiencing issues or that isssues shouldn't be fixed.

As in started your phone as new, updated, and then restored?

I might be wrong but I think that’s the same as just restoring - because even with just a restore, the firmware isn’t copied across

[doublepost=1509636414][/doublepost]i restored attempting to get rid of the heating of my iPhone and it got super hot during that. could there be something wrong with my hardware..?

I did a fresh install of iOS 11.1 via iTunes, then restored from an iCloud backup during the setup process.

I'm going to have to try the reset/restore trick for my iPad Air 2 because 11 made it so choppy that its become almost borderline useless to me now.

oh dear!!
i did a restore, and then somehow iTunes starting backing up the phone after the restore (which would have replaced my actual backup) so i disconnected my phone. the original backup is there but i have scrambled the cellular settings which don't work when i restore the phone. so i restored the phone and then backed that up to see if it unjumbled itself. it hasn't

holy heck

I was always under the impression that restoring from a backup created the same problems?

This was a common Mac OS problem back in the day. Not really an iOS problem, that I know of.

Hey all /

I’ve been on 11.1 for a few days now. My 8+ is so. freaking. laggy. Swiping up notifications lags. The keyboard lags like crazy. I get frame rate stutters in games.

In addition, my phones been getting hotter than before, and while on betas 1-4 I was making it all day and then some, I’m having to now charge around 6pm.

Anyone else? I really don’t want to set up as a new phone. :(
Hey. I have iphone 8. 11.0 was fast and smooth. 11.1. is lagging, the animations, swiping, lock screen...everything is slow and laggy....so it's not only you. hope they will fix. I've contacted apple support and been talking them about this problem for 4 days now. Report your problem also to them! The more report, the more chance for a fix.

Try this! I had the same issues. Do a restore via cable / itunes & NOT VIA WIFI. It solved it for me - fast, smooth...as it should. Something is not right with wifi update.
