Fellas,

My camera settings - ie: flash, live photos keep resetting each time i close the camera app. I figured it would be resolved in these patches but now as i read; there are many threads about this on reddit and other places.

Anyne else experiencing this?

Going to raise this again, I'm still seeing my camera settings resetting at random.

On 11.1 iPhone 8 plus

Working correctly with 11.1 here.

Guessing the Live Photos is the problem setting and seems to be a bit counter-intuitive, imo.

To stop the Camera from always going to Live Photos being on, one needs to turn on Live Photos in Preserve Settings and then turn off in Camera. Now the Camera will always start in photo mode, no filters (both these off in Preserve Settings), Live Photos off.

Same, few others close to me also mentioned this 11.1 now.. :(

Nope, I've always had preserve camera settings on.
It still randomly turns it all back on.

Others have reported a similar issue.

Yep, me2. Live Photos. I like it off. But when opening the Camera sometimes Live Photos will be on again, sometimes not. Really annoying.

I’m getting this too on 1.1.1. I also get the introduction to portrait mode every time it resets, quite annoying...

I’ve just had this happen 3 times in one evening. Haven’t worked out a way to replicate it on demand yet (ie when screen recording). But I know when it’s happened because when I open the camera it opens in video mode (I do not have preserve camera mode on).

Same here on iPhone X - 11.1.1. Reset camera settings and Portrait Introduction keep appearing. Tried everything. Reset All Settings. Restore with backup. Force Reboot. The only thing to do is report as a bug to Apple.

Maybe 11.2 has the fix.

I am having the same problems with camera settings resetting on iPhone 7 ios 11xxxx. The video resetting is the most annoying because it'll switch from 4k 30fps to 1080 and I've preserved it to save on last known setting. I find this to be a huge oversight considering this is probably the most important feature of any smart phone

This continues to be my biggest bug in iOS 11. I absolutely hate it. Live settings and flash settings reset automatically. I also get the description of Portrait mode when this happens. It’s like all of the camera settings completely reset. So annoying.

Yup it's continuing to happen to me daily. Very frustrating.

Yeah happens to me too, iPhone X with 11.1.2 installed. Also happens to the other half’s iPhone 6s on same iOS version. Annoying!

Go to camera settings and check what you have set. Some options don’t preserve the setting you closed the app with.

A number of us have posted before and we all have the Preserve settings enabled for 1: Camera mode, 2: Filter & Lighting 3: Live Photo
Yet is still happens at random.

This has been an issue for as long as I can remember. I clearly doubt apple has any intentions to fix it. They know about it but obviously have other motives. Live Photos take up much more space. So it is in Apple’s interest to keep this setting on as it would then require you to purchase more iCould space or buy phones with more storage memory. Both options mean more $$$ for Apple.

Given that it's not really an issue for many, seems like that conspiracy wouldn't really work out. Seems like a weird bug of some sort that affects some devices/installations for some reason.

Who said it’s not an issue for many? Most people just don’t care or realize what is happening... My entire family has this issue and we have phones ranging from 6s to X...

On the other hand my entire family doesn't.

As much as everyone loves a good conspiracy this was clearly a technical bug. When it occurred, it didn't just reset live photos (side note, why would Apple switch to HEIC if they wanted to waste space?), it acted as if the camera app had no access to its settings and was in some sort of 'default' state. The less obvious side effects were that the HDR option didn't show up even if you had it set to, and Portrait Mode would give you introductory text again.

In any case, I've been running 11.2.1 since it was released and I haven't had it happen once. So I can tentatively say it's fixed? Can anyone else confirm?

On the other hand, I have had a new bug on two occasions: I wake up my phone and the flashlight and camera soft buttons simply don't appear. It was launching the camera with these buttons that caused the bug before, so maybe the fix is that if the camera isn't 'ready' it simply won't show the button.

This is the first I'm reading of this issue and I've never come across it on my old iPhone 6S or my new X. It does seem strange that when it happens, people are reporting that they are seeing the portrait mode text as if you've never seen it before. I would report it to Apple and hopefully they can reproduce the issue. Since your entire family has issues, I'm sure you could send them the logs from all of your phones so they can get to the root of the problem.
