This sounds nice. With 1Password removing support for perpetual licenses from the App Store (MAS for now but I won't be surprised if they continue that trend) this will make it easier for me to not give them more of my money.

Bad move Agilebits.

I would've been happy to pay a one time $35 fee for 1password but not $35 on annual basis. I'm already subscribed to way too many subscription services. Unless something is providing serious utility (Adobe CC, Netflix, Hulu, iCloud) I'd rather go without it.

iOS 12 is the first update in a long time I’ve been excited about. Hopefully, this is supported by LastPass.

Here’s hoping iOS 13 will finally let us choose default apps.

MacOS Mohave looks promising too.

So do I need 1Password any more?
Yes because:
  1. SMS two factor authentication is only secure if your wireless carrier is. A hacker can often get a replacement SIM card through social engineering and gain access to all of your SMS.
  2. 1Password is very good at handling RFC 6238 two factor authentication.
  3. 1Password is excellent at organizing and searching for passwords and other secure information.
  4. 1Password lets you create multiple vaults and all you to share some of the vaults with other people.
  5. 1Password can store more than just passwords. It's much better at credit card than Safari's autofill. It can store IDs and other sensitive info.

Isn't having everything going through iCloud Password somewhat less secure? In the articles about the FBI wanting access to your iPhone, I believe that Apple couldn't provide phone or Message access, but they could be subpoenaed to provide passwords that were stored in iCloud. So those passwords are stored in a way that Apple (or someone else potentially) can access them.

Or does their new privacy initiative address this in particular?

You realize they still offer perpetual licenses, right? I just bought 1Password 7 for Mac and 1Password 7 for Windows. Each was 40 bucks. I can use it forever.

1 Password is out already and sidelined because of AgileBits rapacious steps  - meanwhile too expensive paying each year and the perpetual license is not well defined (e.g. usable on several own Macs?) - and too expensive either...

ENPASS and Keychain is my way now ;)

For third-party password apps, such as 1Password or LastPass, Apple is adding a new Password Autofill Extension that will let these password management apps to supply autofill passwords in apps and Safari, making it much easier to enter a password stored in an app like 1Password or LastPass.

Has anyone seen if this "Password Autofill Extension" is also available for macOS too? Would be a much more secure environment for third-party password apps. I just found this article Stop using password manager browser extensions and it kind of shows where things could be improved.

I use Keeper Security for my password management and they have been amazing. I like that they have the zero knowledge architecture, so this will be awesome once they put this in iOS12. Thank you Apple!

So just because you have to the AgileBits store to get the licenses and not the MAS, it’s a bad move?

With more convenient to use what Apple has, but choice wound be up to you. Hopefully that won't be the future .... If Apple limited you to "if you iOS you must use out own generated passwords and no ones else's". people would loose interest i think.. And would hurt third party apps like Lastpass as well

For one, others explain the technology side being open source.. Apple doesn't in all cases,. which is a big deal for security. Regardless, no company should really force you into anything you don't want to

1Password isn't just for passwords now. You can store a lot of things to your vault like images or documents and it is a place to hold anything you can think of besides internet accounts.

Recovery key's, recovery files, backup codes, identities, account numbers, SSN's, etc.

Everyone is is now moving to this "share password" type system only to just trust what they have done is sceure as a means to slack off and encourage sharing..

It doesn't work with me.. Kudos to Apple to have this. and it may make life easier, but i'd i'd rather set up a new password to give others.. If that's not the way they want it done, they don't get

Yes. MAS is the preferred method to obtain software for MacOS.

I do, I'm very disappointed that they took away the ability to obtain it in the most safe and convenient method for their customers (presumably) because they want to push people to the SaaS model.

Fair point and I don't disagree. I am just happy they walked back their original intent to get rid of it totally. I do wish it was more "front and center" for your average user but I am happy to support a company providing a non-rental non-self cloud option.

Yeah, I was in "just take my money" mode until I found out about the lack of MAS support. It just seems so sleazy to me it offends me. I've been a big fan of the software and company for a long time and would have gladly paid upgrades for the last version. Given the approach they've taken though and their weak explanation for why I feel lied to and I'm not going to do business with them now. I really don't like that at all, I don't feel good about it in any way. If perpetual license were on the App Store right now I'd pay my $65 (retail price after their launch special is over) and be happy about the transaction.

I can’t figure out how to modify the “suggested “ password. For instance, the website password requires two numbers and no “special “ characters. iOS 12 gives me only one number and hyphens.

So do I need 1Password any more?

It sounds like password manager apps like 1P will now be a source database. You still get the added features that apps like 1P offer with better systemwide integration. It’s been laking for years. You have always been able to use Apple’s password manager, but it’s very limited compared to 1P.
