Are the wallpapers for iOS likely to change? Apple used to have the most beautiful wallpapers, the ones in the beta are either old (and clash with icons)/incredibly ugly (those rainbow ones!) or blank (ie. iOS 11).

The only nice one is the abstract colours that's shown in the adverts. Are wallpapers something they're still deciding on before GM? Please tell me I'll have more choice!

You're likely seeing what'll be in the release next month, unfortunately. I, for the life of me, can't understand the choices they make concerning their stock wallpapers. They've dropped so many good ones over the years. To me, though, it's all moot because I get my wallpapers from Google images or articles from my Flipboard anyway.

For the longest time I'd use an Apple stock wallpaper as my background for my lock screen and a different one for my home screen. Since iOS 8 or 9 I believe it was I've been finding wallpapers on google to use instead. I really miss when Apple had tons of options to choose from and now all we have is some rainbows and a beach...

Yep, we sure could use some more Apple wallpapers. When they find the time to make them, Apple really show their design heritage. It’s been rather slow on that front lately, unfortunately, and when something new appears, it isn’t very diverse. 7 rainbows, out of 19 wallpapers? A shame Mr. Cook isn’t into art or landscapes :)

Agreed. At one point I went back and downloaded the stock wallpaper from each x.0 release version. They definitely know what they're doing when it comes to wallpapers (or used to, at least).

Hehe. I did the same thing. Hard to find the real wallpapers, though. Often it is a cropped version, or a reproduction.

Have you tried searching "HD iPhone (model) wallpapers"? It's pretty easy to find whole pages of wallpapers specifically for your device. I even searched "live iPhone X wallpapers" and found some pretty great ones.

Yes, but I really would like the original ones. Grabbed from the firmware. They seem hard to come by.

You realize those "rainbows" are a homage to Apple's old logo?

Last year, those "rainbow" wallpapers, along with the globes and flowers weren't announced and made available until the IOS11 GM (err rather the iphone x OS leak).

So there's a chance that a fresh set of wallpapers is waiting to be unveiled at the official ios12 launch next month.

Oh, I wasn’t suggesting anything about the rainbow wallpapers. I believe the colorpattern of Apple logo is different from “the other” rainbow, so it is easy to check, if one is bothered by it. I am not. I just wish for more “advanced” wallpapers and don’t find these very interesting, too much alike. Trying to make it funny, maybe failing :)

Thanks for the link. Will try to compare to original wallpapers when I get the time. Could be the real deal.

The rainbow wallpapers are almost as bad as the animated ones. Come on, Apple!

I’m LOVING beta iOS 12 (my fave since iOS 6), just that little bit further. Give me a background that compliments (instead of clashes with) your OS aesthetic.

The black wallpaper is perfect on iPhone X. It saves the screen and battery power since black doesn’t activate the OLED screen (where it’s black).

Hence, I always use black where it’s possible, like backround in the Home app etc.
