There's a rumor going around locally that 13.1.3 turns phones older than the 6S into bricks. Kind of a "planned obsolescence" program. Anyone out there with an SE who's updated to 13.1.3?

iPhone SE with 13.1.3 here; only issue is that the bluetooth connection between phone and Apple Watch is not good... but this might be related to the watchOS 6.0.1.
Otherwise it's running good. BTW: iPhone SE has been released after iPhone 6s, so it's younger...

iOS 13 runs fantastically on the iPhone SE. Granted battery life isn’t as great as it used to be but it’s a small battery with a 5th gen iOS version.

iOS 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13

Works great but like I said, battery life isn’t as great and it’s to be expected.

Have 2 iPhone SE's in my household running 13.1.3, no performance issues, battery is no different either.

Thank you everyone who responded. That was very helpful. Have a great weekend.

Just wondering, is it better on 13.1.3 than 13.1.2 for iphone SE? I’m still at 13.1.2, worried that the latest version will make it worse. Thanks.

Is the Bluetooth connectivity Issue only with the watch? Have you tried to use other Bluetooth devices with it and had the problem?

Do not use BT frequently, mostly with watch. There I feel it is somehow related to waking up the connection, on the first attempts in using Siri, making a call etc. it fails when the phone was sleeping. If the phone was powered up (display on) it mostly works flawless.

Where is this “rumor” going around?

Do some searching around the forums and you'll find a large amount of evidence. Not exclusive to the SE either. Numerous older models that, once upgrading iOS versions, find the battery life to be much worse.

Of course you'll have apologists claiming "well it's an old phone, time to replace it". Funny they only say this after the iOS update already happens, and since Apple doesn't provide an official way to go back, you're stuck.

OP, you can try it out for yourself you don't have to take my word for it. Buy an older model and see how the battery life is, I suspect you'll be grossly disappointed and you'll end up returning the phone. Which is a shame because a company with Apple's financial resources shouldn't have to resort to such petty tactics as making their older phone models worse after "updates", only to have you looking to buy their newest, very expensive hardware.

Certainly reports or issues of different types, as well as reports of no issues or nothing of much consequence. Somewhat more than some major releases, while not much more than some others. Certainly nothing to the level of just bricking devices, and certainly nothing of that sort that is actually widespread.

Get an older device (SE/6s/7), have apple replace the battery so you know it is 100% new, and see the battery life for yourself.

I suspect that one of the earlier point releases could have killed performance on the iPhone SE as performance on my 7+ was poor for a while and battery life particularly poor. 13.1.3 is a lot better for those things compared to 13.1.

Weirdly I’ve just updated my SE to an 11. Waited patiently for about 18 months beyond the time I’d normally upgrade.
My SE didn’t have as many 3rd apps crash as my 11.
It’s crazy. eBay and many big player apps just don’t load.
Having glitches with iTunes too.
The iOs is great on both and was surprised how well the SE faired. Even in presence of the fancy new phone.
Be interested if there is an iOS issue that’s causing these apps to fail.

Extreme battery issues on my SE which was working well until immediately after iOS 13.1.3 upgrade. I have restarted, restored, and turned off virtually every feature; iCloud, Siri, location, cellular data, wifi. No mater what I do it eats battery at 10% to 30% an hour even in standby. Before the update I would get 2 days of light use, 4 days in standby to 20% battery mark. This is not about new features on a phone with the battery well matched to its processors and screen size. Something is seriously wrong.

What firmware were you on prior to 13.1.3?

What does that have to do with widespread bricking that is tied to a malicious conspiracy?

For those who still don't believe, there are even news articles on it now:

Ah, yes, Forbes, the publication that seems to play the role of "the boy who cried wolf" using pretty much the same clickbait articles for practically any and every update.
