I bet this will be a service business model. Pay for the equipment and pay monthly subscription fee to track the device.
If your phone is out of range from the watch you will see an icon on the watch homescreen. It’s red and it looks like a phone with a line through it, iirc.I wish something similar but for my phone .... for example: get a notification at my Apple Watch if I leave my phone at home.
So far the solutions that I Had try where not that good
How do you know that? Most people want to disconnect from the current WiFi and Bluetooth, not turn them off indefinitely
It’ll be a great accessory for their dog leash.
(I can’t believe this is a thing)

I expect there are human rights issues regarding sticking one on an ill relative. Geofencing them might be considered imprisonment.
You obviously do not have young kids that you take to crowded areas.
For those who don't.... imagine scenarios like you take your kid to a summer festival. There are arts and crafts, musicians, booths selling things, kid bounce houses, etc.
There are many times where the crowds are completely packed like sardines in certain sections. You can put your kid on your head, or hold their hand, but if you have more than 1 (and you're carrying diaper bags, etc) or they see something they'll pull free from your grasp (kids are slippery than you think!) and run, and you can't find them as you're 3 feet taller and they're under there somewhere.... easiest to use have a leash.
At 1 or 2, they won't listen to you no matter how well you parent. By the time they're 3 or 4, they understand things.
We thought we'd never do this as parents either, and laughed at those. But wait until you're a parent in certain situations!
How do you know that?
I was responding to posts regarding putting tiles on people with dementia etc so they don’t wander off. I assumed they meant without them knowing....

Isn’t this already possible with an Apple Watch?
But that doesn’t confirm the conclusion. From listening to the support questions geniuses heard at Apple before the change. “Why does my wifi not work?” “Why can I not connect to my car?”
It will be based on nearby phones running latest iOS. The tile isn’t going to have GPS air any kind of cellular or the battery life would be next to nothing. The”Tile” trackers have like a year battery and then have to be replaced.this will be a great thing if it's either gps enabled(which is a done deal), or if this will work the same way as tile - the network is dependent on the amount of iphones, not the chips.
Who cares if Tile is cheaper when virtually no one runs the Tile app? Millions of people will be able to locate your Apple tile-tagged item once it’s lost beyond your Bluetooth range. Why? They will still be cheaper. And there's still the vast Android market.
