OK, I scanned the topics under discussion and did not see a reference to this. I held off updating my iPhone 10s until yesterday when I got my AirPods Pro. Updating was no problem. But today when I attempted to synch my phone to my iMac running Mojave it told me I needed a software update to connect my phone. It gave me the same message when I tried with an older Mac (Mac Pro 3,1) which is limited to 10.11, so I guess if you have an older Mac that cannot run Catalina your are completely out of luck if you want to keep your backups locally. I asked Apple and essentially they said there was no answer but to upgrade the OS or buy a new machine.

I could understand if certain features were not available after the upgrade, but to totally bar the phone from connecting to the Mac is really out of line. Am I missing something here?

Yeah something is off, is your iTunes up to date? iPhone 11 only requires macOS Catalina 10.15 using the Finder or macOS El Capitan 10.11.6 through macOS Mojave 10.14.6 using iTunes 12.8 or later.

I’m running the latest Mojave on my 2017 iMac. Have had no issues at all syncing my XS Max or now my 11 Pro Max. Only issue is album art on phone doesn’t match the text name of the playlist.
I have been running on iOS 13 since its first beta introduction.
Currently on latest dev beta.
Maybe you just need an iTunes update?

It is now working. The message panel saying that the system needed to be updated gave no details. Since the only update being offered on Software Update was Catalina I assumed that was what it wanted, which did not make much sense. So I used my Mac Pro 5,1 (running Mojave but not compatible with Catalina) and clicked the update button to see what would happen. It updated iTunes only, which then worked with the phone. I noted that the iTunes version before the update was 12.9.5.5 and after the update it remained the same. I've noticed lately that Apple is pushing out some updates that do not change the version numbers, which I would regard as a bad practice.

Thanks all.
