Love Dark mode. I’m getting all day usage with my 11 Pro Max and I am a heavy video streamer and lately I’ve been playing a lot of Mario run, haven’t had to put my phone on the charger until I go to sleep at night.

i gladly gave up 3D Touch for a larger battery and the type of all day battery life I’m getting now.

too bad i can't stand the way dark mode looks)

I agree. I tried it and it lasted about five minutes. For me (YMMV), most apps became very hard to read.

Apple will introduce the new "Superdark Mode".

In Superdark Mode, the screen will be all black, deep black, no matter what the user does. It effectively extends battery time by more than 10 hours.

Superdark Mode will be controlled remotely by the Chinese government and is expected to be introduced this Christmas to iPhone Users in Honk Kong, Macau and Mainland China.

Superdark Mode will be available in the US and several other countries next year.

That was obviously humor, but my adult son runs his iPhone X with the display turned so far down that I basically can't read what's on the display. He's effectively already using SuperDark Mode. He says his battery life is great...no wonder...

agreed. i guess i'll test it next time i'm on a transatlantic flight or something. but i prefer the normal aesthetic much more, and much like your son - turn the brightness down.

Everyone is throwing their sarcasm around, but before this was officially released there was a ton of discussion that users wouldn't even notice a change in battery life.

I'm glad it's getting extra coverage. Not everyone follows tech news all the time and it's a handy tip to know when your battery is low.

why do I feel like my battery took a hit since then? I've noticed my phone dying overnight when it shouldn't way more

OLED with the brightness turned down is so bad for you. you're basically just making the screen flash slower. I find white text on black background such easier on the eyes and I use the accessibility mode to turn the white point down when I want to dim the screen versus turning brightness down

Apple really nailed it with dark mode in iOS 13 and it’s hands down my favorite feature with the new update. Yes overall it’s buggy, but most of the bugs I was initially experiencing have been fixed.

I was sort of surprised by how hard I found it to read in Dark Mode. I used to use reverse/dark mode on my Kindle sometimes, and it was fine. I don't know whether it's the smaller screen, or greater number of visual elements (i.e., not simple text), or OLED vs. the LCD (?) display on the Kindle, or something else, but the Dark Mode experience on the iPhone was not what I expected at all.

I see lots of people in this thread saying "duh" and "of course it does" but it's nice to have a real test with measurable results.

There is also a persistent myth going around that dark mode won't save energy unless you use completely black pixels; this myth needs to be eliminated already. An OLED pixel is like a tiny light bulb, if it's running dimmer it uses less power; you don't have to use 100% black to get the power savings. Dark greys and other colors are sufficient.

How come the phones had t-mobile sims in there earlier during the test but not later. Were they removed?

I doubt Apple will wade into any discussions on extended battery life as it would put them on the hook for it actually being there for every user.

i think it's the nature of the screen. i can read my kindle for hours and my eyes feel fine, while reading on my phone or computer is a disaster - eyes get tired almost instantly.

This is also true of the Apple Watch. I use a black background on my watch face and even with 50-100 notifications throughout the work day, I end up with ~60-65% remaining when I go to sleep. If I change that to a white background it's more like 40-45% after a day.

They don’t need to acknowledge any ‘user based’ battery management tests, they go by official testing conducted through R&D specifically of what the battery is capable of producing. It’s like the Apple Watch for example, Apple rates the battery life at 18 hours, but I can manage 24 hours through various user settings.

Oddly though, Apple never mentioned that it also potentially offers energy-saving benefits
Apple doesn't disclose it because they want people to not think about battery life, as much as possible. As many battery life features as they now pack, they still charge premium for replacing batteries... (or have they gone back on letting third parties replace them? ... I forget if that was in the news or not..)

It will be even darker than vantablack!

Haven’t been able to view the video. How many times was the test repeated? And on how many devices?

To help eliminate potentially anomalous results, I would have thought at least a few repeats - and separately, variations in the device used to test - would be in order…
There were no anomalous results. Dark mode saved power.
