I have a 12 Mini but I'm going back to my previous phone, which is on 14.2. I don't have any iCloud backups on 14.2. I only have one backup, and it's of the 12 Mini on 14.2.1. Is there any way at all to restore this backup my old phone (the SE 2nd Gen)? Or am I stuck until 14.3?

Edit: for further clarification; the SE doesn't recognize 14.2.1 as a compatible update for the sake of restoring the backup (SE is on 14.2)

IOS 14.2.1 was only released for the 12 series iPhones. Also, you can't restore from newer IOS to older IOS. Double whammy in your case. Sorry

This is correct. If OP can wait until 14.3 is released, they can update their SE to 14.3 and then reset and restore from the 12 that is on 14.2.1. Hopefully 14.3 is coming in the next week or so.

just curious why are you going back to your previous phone?

Touch ID is much more convenient for 80% of my life. I might not go back full time and might keep the SE as a backup, as the 12 Mini is obviously an improvement in many areas. But I still really like the SE and Touch ID.

you can always just use a passcode to deal with the mask issue right now, i agree during these times face id is kind of inconvenient, but once these masks go away you will love Face ID. i would use the 12 Mini and keep the SE as as backup as you said. the screen and camera on the Mini are a lot better then on the SE and the battery life should also be a bit better as well
