Seeing a continued drain with my 12 mini. 100% at 12 AM, listent to my audiobook for about 15 mins then pretty much no activity, the drain keeps happening to wind up at 50 %.

Add us to the list. My wife’s OG SE with a new replacement battery also started losing battery quickly. She needs a working phone, taking care of our son, so we upgraded today.

Apple continues to be inept at software, and we pay the price.

Meanwhile pinning my hopes on an open source phone.

Users on the Apple Developer forums and Reddit are widely reporting that iOS 14.2 causes severe battery drain issues.

iOS14.2on-Phone-Feature-2.jpg

Symptoms of the problem include rapid battery drain and longer charge times than usual. Some users are reporting that their devices are losing over 50 percent charge in less than 30 minutes, and seeing large drops of around five percent within minutes of normal use.

The issue seems to be software-related because multiple users are experiencing battery life sticking at a high percentage before dropping, as well as seeing a sudden gain in battery life after restarting their device.

The affected iPhones all appear to be slightly older, such as the iPhone XS, iPhone 7, iPhone 6S, and first-generation iPhone SE. The 2018 iPad Pro running iPadOS 14.2 also seems to be affected.

iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 arrived just two weeks after iOS 14.1 and iPadOS 14.1, in the second major updates to the iOS and iPadOS 14 operating systems that were released in September. The update included new emojis, Intercom, AirPods Optimized Battery Charging, People Detection, and new wallpapers.

There are no new reports suggesting that the battery issue was fixed in iOS 14.2.1, which sought to address bugs with MMS messages, made for iPhone hearing devices, and a significant issue with screen responsiveness on the iPhone 12 mini.

The third developer and public betas of iOS 14.3 and iPadOS 14.3 have already been released, so it is possible that Apple may fix the problem in that update. The third major update to iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 brings support for Apple ProRAW, as well as refinements to Home, Health, and Weather.

Users with older devices may wish to hold off on updating to iOS 14.2 if they have not already done so, until the issue has been fixed by Apple.

I'm following the same pattern I started with iOS 12, wait until the next WWDC before I upgrade my devices. These days, it just makes sense and its not detrimental that you must be on the latest release right away. Part of my strategy when I start upgrading is to upgrade my least important device, which is my 6s, then my iPad Pro and finally my iPhone X.

My 2018 iPad Pro has the issue big time.... gets almost too hot to hold....Seems more prevalent with more graphics and music related apps......Anytune Pro may be most notable stoker.....

iPhone 7+ here, since last update battery drain is clearly noticeable! Sometimes more than 50% within 2 hours without using it!
Apart from that it introduced strange behavior as well like not changing to landscape mode... or remaining in landscape mode... or alarms either going mute in the middle of ringing or getting loud suddenly... etc 😡

My 12.9 iPad Pro Gen 3 (2018) Loses 12 plus percent power per hour. When I first got it it would loose a couple percent an hour. I have only seen this with 14.x. I tend to use for 5 hours in morning and 7-8 hours night (streaming videos) so it forces me to do a charge between those times. Fortunately I am at home a lot right now in these times so I just charge it and do other daily tasks in the middle of day and its ready for my second use period. But this would be a pain if I was using it away from home portable wise and have to take a 3 hrs to recharge of course I can just use plugged in but charging takes longer then....

When checking your battery usage, have you checked below the graph the ‘battery usage by app’ and ‘activity by app’ logs? If you touch the listing it switches between the two. It makes me wonder if this is app related and an app that’s not working well with the latest updates being the culprit.

I have the same iPad as you, a 2018 12.9” Pro with a magic keyboard attached to it, and I haven’t charged it since Friday. Loaded with 14.2. My other iPad and 12PM aren’t having battery issues, all with 14.2 installed, which leads me to wonder about an app.

My device is iPad Pro 2020 12.9 inch model. I’m experiencing huge battery drain in addition to device heating up to the point that it automatically lowers the screen brightness. (I only bought it a month ago, battery health 100%)

Looking at app use in 24 hours does not seem excessive in any app 24 percent safari, 15 percent Facebook (usual culprit in past) and 20 percent HBO Max (that was tonight) for 3 hours and i and it dropped to in normal drop even with the less excessive FB and Safari. Here is the screen dump:

Yeah I have noticed this on my iPad Air 3 in addition to the battery drain. Runs very hot lately.

Been saying this for a while and people online were like "omg you're such a haterrrr"

11 Pro here and the battery life is a potato – nowhere near as good as it was a few months ago (battery health is still 94%). But it was especially last Friday that my battery went from fully charged to 38% by noon and all I was doing was streaming music (?!)

iOS 14 has been a total mess battery wise.

I've not had this issue on my iPad mini 5, iPad Pro 10.5" and iPhone 8 except once with the iPad Pro 10.5", sorta.

I one time opened the case of my iPad Pro 10.5" and found a full-screen phone UI showing an incoming call from an unfamiliar number. I ignored it and it turned out to be some Door Dash customer service # when I looked it up. I've never been a customer of theirs. The incoming "phone call" was from Google Hangouts. I don't even know the phone # that Google assigned since I don't use it/nor their app much at all (maybe once every 6 months).

I noticed my battery was real low (~25%) and the back of my iPad's case was warm (due to I guess warm CPU). When I checked Settings > Battery > Last 24 hours, seemed like Google Hangouts had pegged the CPU for about 3+ hours up until that call came in. It still shows for that day 70% of battery usage with 4 minutes on screen and 3 h 47 m background. That was I think the day I upgraded so I guess there was possibly a Google Hangouts bug of something going awry after the iOS version was changed from out underneath it.

I'm pretty sure I was on iOS 13.7 before going straight to 14.2.

I am saying, thank goodness I got rid of my 6s and got my 12 Pro!

Whether the 12 Pro simply has enough capacity to make the issues irrelevant, or doesn't suffer, I can't tell. But the 6s was so bad I was carrying round a powerpack with me. And plugging it in whenever I was in the car.

Difficult to point my finger at 14, or any variant of 14, but I was concerned at the usage by Exposure Notifications. Even now, that is showing 17% of usage. Yet, much of the time, there is no other device within range that has any form of Covid-19 app on it.

I noticed also that my phone baterry drains a lot faster than before. I was wondering why and if it was only me. Here is why, I see.
