At this point, apple not messing up anything for me is better than having any new features. Fitness+ is locked behind 2FA. Those new camera features don’t apply to any iPhone released before iPhone 12. Siri support is less relevant for me because I don’t use Siri.

Maybe I will just enjoy some bug fixes.

Sorry to seem negative but.....what has it broken? After my experience of iOS 14 (loss of all health & activity history, no longer compatible with iTunes(!!!???) etc etcI now dread iOS updates.

Does iOS 14.3 delete all photos or stop Bluetooth accessories working? Perhaps it deletes all contacts? Will I still be able to use my phone if I update or do I need to delete everything, then set up as a new phone, restore from backup, and then do it all again ?

I’ll stop now.

Sorry.

Hey guys, iOS 14.3 working great on my new iPhone 12 Pro Max, about a week old now.
Got a couple of questions:

1. I bought an Onn branded Otterbox style case from Walmart for the phone. Rugged and Clear, so I can see the phone's original color. Also has an optional clip like the Otterbox does. However, according to some reviews I read, it's not compatible with the MagSafe charger, but is compatible with other charging pads that aren't magnetic. While I'm going to stick with the lightning cable for charging, since I only need to charge at home usually, as my main charger. What are some good third party wireless charging pads that would be good for a first wireless charger?

Thanks.

One other question, with the exception of people actually getting defective phones, why does it seem like so many people seem to be complaining about the warmer display on the iPhone 12 series ? I asked about it myself, just because I hadn't dealt with an OLED panel before. But after digging around and talking to other people who work with video, and understanding display calibration myself and being used to a calibrated display. It looks normal to me, and it seems like most of the reviews by creators don't have anything bad to say about it either. Apple already acknowledged the problem and said there will be a software fix.

The only thing I noticed strange for myself personally, is True tone seems to make the screen overly yellow in warm lighting, but when I hit the sensor with bright white LEDs, or a cool white LED bulb the display turned blueish white.

So, while there are people convinced their phone is broken, seems like it's software to me personally. Either way, I turned true tone off, as most creators and professionals recommend this, for accurate color representation.
I've tried some HDR content already, and it looks great! very nice color representation, and blacks are really good.
I think the iphone 12 pro max panel is one of the few I've seen where grey isn't too blue or yellow either.

Then again, after getting used to calibrated displays if something is too cool and bright, I can't look at it, it hurts my eyes now, so I for one is glad Apple has done this.

Ive just switched homepage to EcoSia. very cool! 80% of profits go to plant trees all around the world. Search seems pretty good as well! i also got Ecosia for mobile. maybe i can drop google now!

My Nikon D750 has dual card slots and I have it set where when I take a picture JPG is written to one card and RAW is written to the second. I like that because I only edit the ones where the JPG is messed up. For me 90% of the JPGs are perfect. I wish the iPhone could do this as well.

What size are your cards, and how full are they after a typical shoot for you?

I messed with the RAW last night, not bad...just glad I really jacked up my storage on this Pro Max upgrade expecting the Raw. (I ALWAYS got the 64gb versions of iPhone before now)

I have a fast older 64gb CF card in my trusty Canon Mark III, along with a 256gb SD card. I can easily fill up that 64GB card in no time on a brief road day trip with RAW shots.

*Some of the RAW shots I took last night on the iPhone, with a lot of detail and color pushed a few Raw photos to 40-42mb. Most were around 27-30MB

I was really expecting RAW to be in the gigabytes range. May on some cameras it is. I've never used RAW. I plan to test it iwth the 12 pro max when I have something to shoot that will be worth the extra detail test.

I’ve been looking a dead Air Quality Index (AQI) complication on my Watch since 2015. I’m glad China got it, but I would appreciate AQI coming to Canada.

Does anyone use Ecosia as a search engine? I moved to DDG last year, but there’s something I just don’t like about its search results - it just doesn’t seem as well localised for non-US search results as Google (I’m in the UK). Guess I should just try it and see...

ETA: I think I just answered my own question and it appears results are provide by Microsoft. I assume it will have the same results as Bing then. Will have to delve a little deeper into that relationship.
I been using it and yes it’s just bing with another skin on top. Not much difference in my opinion than Google search results in my experience. I’ll continue using it as long as they keep planting trees.

The space adds up fast. 18 photos, over 550MB. (I'll delete this to gain back space)

My old iMac on Sierra does have issues with .DNG thumbnails..odd. I get the same problem with .DNG Raw photos from my Mavic Pro drone. Files open find in Photoshop or Lightroom

BUT CR2, NEF (Canon, Nikon raw) thumbnails are ok.

How’s everyone’s battery life going on 14.3?
first charge for mine evaporated to 41% in about 5 hours of mostly screen off, gonna do a hard reset and update on results

Well for me, my battery has been great even on 4.2.1, and now 4.3. I got a new 12 pro max. On my iphone 7 plus which I traded in Battery was still good for it's age, after i removed the app causing the drain. Doing my second charge now of the phone since i've owned it. Have gotten about 3 to 4 days about on one full charge.

That’s pretty sweet battery life :)
I forgot to mention I’m on iPhone 8 just past 2 years old, 14.1 held best for me, got through to 5pm with about 50% - max capacity at 86%

I'm not a heavy user, and it's a new phone / battery. Even after 3 years of use, the 7 plus was still at about 92% capacity of overall battery health, and I'd get at least 2 days, maybe 3 depending on what I was doing. The only exception was when google assistant was acting up and taking battery, not even being open. So I uninstalled it and got my battery back. I upgraded because I felt it was a good time, and no larger phones were coming out with touch ID, so the 12 looked like a good time to make the adjustment. Plus it's my first OLED display, and it's quite nice. I like the warmer tones over the LCDs, or even older phones, Video looks great and there is Dolby vision now.

I like Dan, but I'm a little bummed. During the Cold War, there was the Soviet News Agency, TASS. I can't recall who; maybe it was SNL or a similar video showing a KGB Officer - out of frame, with a handgun pointing at the news broadcaster's head as he spoke. 😃🔫

The video should have started; APPLE FINALLY GOT CONTACTS & MESSAGES TO WORK. Dan could then follow with his goose-step, touting, 'hail to the chief' with his well-delivered comments on iOS 14.3 features.

By the way, some of our fellow forum members may not appreciate the humor, but that's all it is and nothing more.

Regards,
Daniel ✌️

I asked Siri "what does a lion sound like" and it gave me something to read and did not play a sound. Yes I've already updated.
