An icon in the iOS 14.3 beta that was briefly released this afternoon before being pulled could reveal the design of the upcoming AirPods Studio headphones.

Found by MacRumors contributor Steve Moser and also highlighted by 9to5Mac, the icon is simple in design but does not depict a current headphone design used by Apple. The icon has deep oval shaped ear cups and what appears to be a padded band, and it is similar to leaked images that allegedly depict the AirPods Studio.

The headphone icon and related icons depicting a backpack and a set of luggage are also in iOS 14.3, suggesting that all of the icons are perhaps related to Apple's upcoming AirTags. We've been seeing hints of AirTags in Apple's software for months now.

Rumors have suggested that Apple's AirPods Studio headphones will have a retro design with interchangeable ear cups and Active Noise Cancellation functionality. There may be two variants, one that is made from lighter weight materials and one that is made from higher-end materials.

Neither AirPods Studio nor AirTags is expected to be released before the end of the year, and it's likely that we'll see these two products unveiled at some point in early 2021.

The icon doesn't look anything like the photo y'all keep trying to push, minus being headphones. lol
I don't think the headphones in the photo are leaked Apple headphones; they look more like what you would find on the 5th page of Amazon when searching headphones.

What is pod about them? Like, do your ears end up being encapsulated in pods? Maybe they should be iCantThinkOfAnOriginalName

Man, I really hope Apple get these right. The comfort and battery life of the Sony WH-1000XM series combined with Apple's build quality and software integration would be something pretty special. And an instant buy for me... if the price isn't too crazy.

Please don't let the earcups be that shallow... I wear Bose purely because they are the only cans in their class with appropriately deep ear cups.

The Sony’s will likely still be better. However, that H1 integration is going to be nice enough for a lot of folks to make the jump.

Yeah I’d love headphones like this from Apple but the rumoured cost of $599 is a bit steep. Hopefully they’ll be cheaper.

Sony WH-1000XM4. Case closed. Will Apple be able to appeal?

With measurements like these, it would take Apple's acoustics engineering team actual work to make something that sounds worse : https://www.dropbox.com/s/3wx3nvscvt44i4w/Sony WH1000XM4.pdf?dl=0

Add to that the lacklustre controls, poor bluetooth implementation, cheap feeling build quality, multiply that by the number of currently available ANC BT over-ears on the market today, as they're all under-performing relative to what could be achieved if they cared and the industry was better consolidated with only a handful of truly competent players, making an overall superior pair of over-ears will be a walk in the park for Apple.

I think that the only areas where some of the current pairs of ANC BT headphones might still outperform Apple's over-ears is comfort (if Apple decides to follow through on the left / right agnostic design rumours this has a lot of implications for ear cups design that makes it a big challenge to get comfort right, asymmetrical ear cups like the ones on the Bose 700 won't be feasible), and isolation (I'm expecting Apple to put comfort and lack of cabin pressure higher in the priority list of what makes for a good ANC rather than sheer attenuation figures), but not by much if at all (given what the APP achieves in terms of active isolation in a package half the volume of competing earbuds and with deliberately poor passive isolation, I'm quite confident).

I mean yeah mockups aren't exact. This is based on a leak so they're giving us an idea.

But it doesn't give us an idea of anything, because there's no way it's accurate. At best it gives us an idea what headphones look like. But I think most us can picture headphones.
