Apparently the PS5 controller is the biggest breakthrough of this generation. Would be cool if Apple developers could use all the crazy things it can do but unlikely.

Do we know if this is Apple or Nintendo lagging?
nearly unquestionably nintendo. they're not a very pro-sumer company.

note that the nintendo switch had *absolutely no way* to backup user save data for at least a year or so, despite having a microSD card slot. the kingpin launch title of the switch was an RPG people were expected to sink 100s of hours into with no recourse for recovering that data in the event of loss.

when they finally brought "save backups" around, their NS online service was mandatory, and this was not a system level function as games had to implement it, and devs could opt out (what...?) we're talking a technology that was present for the PS1 back in the 90s.

if i had to wager a guess: sony/msoft develops the drivers for it, and apple implements the tech at the OS level. mayhaps apple actually does spend the time on it, and has a license to do so. getting one from nintendo may not be considered worth it.

the switch pro controller is great and all. but the company behind it is obnoxious

Did you try ps5? It’s an amazing controller, haptic triggers are the thing!
My opinion: Adaptive triggers can be great, can be. Games have to support the feature and most of what's available right now doesn't. Sony's adaptive triggers are not a reason to get the controller for Apple's ecosystem since it won't function. Even if it get's adopted in the future, devs still have to implement it in their games. I think it would be cool to have since a heckuvalot of Apple's game catalog would benefit from adaptive trigger functionality. Would Sony allow that to happen? Who knows. Until then, adaptive triggers isn't a plus or minus in the decision making process of choosing a controller for Apple's ecosystem.

Get the Dualsense if you like Sony's button layout. Get the MS controller if you like the XBOX layout. Since Sony changed the ergonomics of the controller to be more like MS, the comfort level is a toss up imo.

it's hard to overstate how fantastic it is. the haptic feedback is on point, and the trigger intensity makes an actual difference to immersion.

Neither does Tesla. They still got The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk on a car.

Oceanhorn 2 is pretty cool though, I guess...
You're right, both of them make overpriced gadgets so it should be a possibility. Apple seems to be slightly better in quality though.

Hmm, I've got controllers and Apple Arcade. If I can connect them to my Apple TVs, maybe there are few games that would be fun to play. Frankly I didn't enjoy playing any of the games using the remote.

Microsoft had haptic feedback in triggers back in 2013 ;) https://www.techradar.com/news/the-...y-getting-the-most-out-of-the-xbox-controller

Forza Motorsport 5 and Killer Instinct were the first two games I bought along with the giant original Xbox One. I remember in Forza being surprised that the brake trigger would kick back and fight you if you went into a turn too fast or braked too hard. Guns in some games give a good kick on the trigger as well. Unfortunately, it wasn't used much. Hopefully it will be now that Sony is doing it too.

Some PC games actually support it with the Xbox One series of controllers too.

You're absolutely right. The PS5 controllers are crazy.

I just wish that the ergonomics were as good as the XBox controller, but they are close.

I wonder if Apple Arcade and/or PC devs are going to take advantage of these in their software.

In any case, exciting times ahead!

Nice, good to see this happened fairly quickly given that these are going to be the go to controllers for millions going forward.

I recently tried to see if I could play Minecraft and was surprised to see it's not on Apple TV. C'mon Apple/Microsoft, it's the perfect game for it.

Microsoft/Mojang pulled it from Apple TV. The player-base just wasn't there.

the music in astros playroom in insanely good

cooling springs music, memory meadows to name a few

and also that game is where I tried the haptic feedback from PS5 controller and it’s something XBOX should learn from
Main theme is a rip off muse starlight thou

But I have a Sony ps5 so I already have a dual sense controller and don’t need to buy anything else... will never buy the Xbox one/series,
(we Europeans have some taste left.😜)

Still waiting for full support of the PS4 controller. Touchpad clicks do not get registered at all, making it hard to use game streaming services. But since those are Apple competitors I may be waiting a long time still.
