Like "how's the battery life" posts... Speaking of, before anyone asks, how's the battery life?

It is amazing.

I could use my ActiveSync-enabled GPRS/ EDGE PDA only for 2-3 hours max a few years ago. If I used Google Maps, I could literally see it coming down every few minutes. Now, I am able to use the phone (Android or iOS) for a lot longer than that in a lot thinner body than that. Battery life is amazing.

Thank you, and always! Instead of comparing with peers, we ought to compare with where we are coming from. Peer-comparison is for those companies to help them innovate. For us consumers, we need to see where we are coming from.

BlackBerry was amazing with battery life, and I loved it. Even though I carried a spare battery with it because my workload with it demanded it. The Windows-based PDA? I had 2 spare batteries for a total of 3 and if you had always-on internet for ActiveSync, you could consume those 3 in roughly 6 hours, give or take! 😅

With an iPhone or any other modern smartphone since a decade, I have only bothered to keep it above 50% and I know it will last me for 4 hours or so, average, easily. If I need to be away for longer, I try and prepare by fully charging (if I do not want to carry a battery pack). And then there is a battery pack for when I am travelling long distances instead of short trips. Life is really good when it comes to battery performance in phones today, and it is always amusing to see people riled up over a few minutes here and there. I get it if there is a drastic drop and that needs to be probed but beyond that, battery life is a moot point today.

Could it be improved? Yes, always. Give me 1mm thicker phone if that means a few more hours of battery life, because that would also probably mean lesser wear and tear of battery through lesser charging with high voltage. Maybe, not sure.

That extra mm would also make for an absolutely flat back instead of the camera hump and bump. So, an all-round win in my eyes.

Lost another % point between the last build and this one... dropped to 96% max capacity...
Do you regularly drain your phone to under 20% or use it till it's dead? Try to avoid doing that, if you do so. Keeping your charge between 20-80% is the most ideal way to remain at a higher health percentage as it doesn't decay the battery as much.

Of course there's always scope for improvement. There's a lot of innovation going on in the android world with split cell batteries and what not. The rate at which the phones charge these days might also reduce the wear on the batteries since they're not connected as long and don't produce heat for extended periods. Will be interesting to see what technologies Apple decides to pick up and integrate into iPhones in the near future!
