Had to switch it back and forth a few times but works great!
There is a slight bug where only one carrier will show but a force quit of settings fixes it.

Confused by the picture, as with my current phone in 4G, only one carrier can be enabled for data at a time.
Does this also mean you can now have both sims using data simultaneously?

What's the benefit of eSim if they can provide dual physical SIM cards in a different market? What's the downside of using two physical SIM cards?
The benefit of an eSim is, that you do not have to wait for a physical sim to arrive by mail, neither you have to go to a shop to pick it up. You can download and activate it online. On the other hand, if you happen to trash your phone with an eSim, then also your number is gone until you activate a sim/eSim in a new phone...

So far so good. Unlock w/Apple Watch works great so far, and dual-SIM 5G is fantastic.

For the folks disabling 5G (which is your choice), do remember that 5G isn't just about speed increases, but also allows for some really nice features such as point-to-point cell communications, increased number of devices per cell (reducing failure rate when in a congested area), lower latencies, and so on.

nothing, with dual SIM the phone physically has two SIM card slots. With eSIM, there's no need for two SIM cards. Instead, however, you can only use one eSIM at a time.

Dual Sim works great!

I have my primary physical Sim as a T-Mobile Sim and the eSIM on Verizon so I’ll now be able to get 5G on Verizon on the eSIM! Awesome!
Just curious why you do this, is it just to have separate biz and personal lines? or is there some other benefit to running both carrier plans on one phone?

I have a T-Mobile account for myself- I’ve been with T-Mobile for a long time and my parents are both on Verizon so they added me to their plan for only $15 a month so that I’m able to get better calling coverage (for emergencies) in the places where there is no T-Mobile service- I do a lot of hiking at national parks where T-Mobile service is nonexistent.

I only use the Verizon line for calling because that plan has unlimited calling. Occasionally I use that for data (just email/iMessaging) but T-Mobile has much faster speeds in the Boston area

I use two carriers because when I travel, I frequently run into places where one network or another doesn’t work well. This lets me switch my data on-the-fly.

Apple today seeded the first beta of iOS 14.5 to developers for testing, and a key new feature is global support for 5G in Dual-SIM mode on iPhone 12 models, as noted by Rene Ritchie. This functionality was previously only available in mainland China.

iPhone 12 models are equipped with both a physical SIM slot and a digital eSIM, allowing for a feature known as dual SIM, dual standby. This means you can have two lines of service on one iPhone, which is useful for purchasing data-only plans while traveling abroad or having personal and business lines on a single iPhone. Until now, Dual-SIM mode was limited to LTE, but iOS 14.5 introduces support for faster 5G on both lines.

Apple has previously said that iOS 14.5 will be released in the early spring, so the software update will likely become available in late March at the earliest. A public beta will likely be released within the next day or so.

An internal Verizon presentation obtained by MacRumors had indicated that Apple planned to enable 5G in Dual-SIM mode by the end of 2020, so the functionality is arriving a few months later than expected.

Can’t wait to stop using old iPhone cause I have more than one sim and I use data on my pay monthly sim from EE and it can’t get 5G if I use my Irish sim in the phone which is pay as you go which is how I was using it before and prefer to have the 5G option and I’d be happy to have dual sim on all devices cause it opens up more options for you
