People still download podcast episodes? That's so 1999. Cool kids these days stream them instead.
Apparently you live in an area with great cellular data coverage. In rural areas I can go miles without a connection. I wish Apple would give us the ability to download map data as well. Looking at grid lines when your data connection drops is not good. Offline downloadable maps is one more advantage Google Maps has over Apple Maps.

This latest version takes away the ability to reorder the list of podcasts in a station, (or playlist.) I have a station called 'daily' that typically has a mix of daily news and tech shows. I had it ordered so that shorter shows played first, longer shows later, along with a mix of humor and tech-heavy material to break the monotony.

This version first reordered the station in some way that I still can't figure out, and now trying to fix the order by selecting a station and pressing 'Edit' is simply broken. It brings up a menu with an item that implies you can reorder the list (reorder episodes) but trying to move the tiles does nothing but scroll the screen. You used to be able to reorder a station's entries by bringing up a list view of the podcasts in the station and letting you slide them to the order you wanted. I guess that since the menu exists, they meant to let you reorder but didn't get a chance to finish before release date. (??) Or more likely, somebody broke the association with the menu item and the previous functionality and nobody bothered to test it before release.

This is seriously broken functionality and I don't know how they could have released the app this way. At least I assume I'm not the only one who cares about this.

If it works for others and I'm doing something wrong, I'd be happy to be corrected.

I wish there was a way to automatically delete podcasts after a period of time or, say, just keep the latest 5. Periodically I realize I’ve got hundreds of podcasts on there I’ll never listen to and have to delete them manually. Silly.
You can limit the downloads in the specific podcast's settings. Go to the podcast's settings and hit "limit downloads"

For those that had the app automatically download episodes for podcasts you follow, in the Podcast Apps' settings (accessible through the iOS Settings App) you can disable Automatic Downloads for followed podcasts.

what i would like to know is how to stop apple tv from playing podcast when trying to listen to them on the phone.

I just wish there was faster sync between iOS and macOS. Like, when I get up from my laptop and move around with my phone. So often they simply do not continue from where I last left off.

Yep - it should work like whispersync on Amazon kindle, which I’ve found very reliable.

I got horribly bitten by the automatic downloading effect - I'd not listened to any podcasts on my phone for a while but I decided I would just before going out on a run instead of my usual audiobooks. I selected a podcast and off I went.

On arriving home an hour later, I was greeted with a message from my provider that I'd used 80% of my data for the month after only starting that month 3 days prior...... I then discovered that whilst I was out running, the podcasts app had downloaded 8Gb of old podcasts for all the shows I'm subscribed to :(

Most of which I'd listened to before - up to 3 years ago..........

Meh.
