The initial investment in an Apple product is well worth it considering my last MacBook Pro was still functional when I traded up (it was six years old). Apple spends a lot on privacy and security to protect the user from nefarious Governments, organisations and individuals with at least six years of current software updates. Google currently provide two years of Android OS and security updates. Android 10 is the current version, Android 9 being the year before which means my Nokias won't receive Android 11 however if I still had my 2.5 year old iPhone XS, Apple will update it to iOS15. There are strong rumours that Google will provide three years of software updates smart phones with the Android One platform which is a disadvantage of those that hold onto their Android OS smart phones for a long time plus the cheaper handset comes at the cost of the owners' privacy being nullified

it seems 14.5 will become kind of milestone with privacy and security improvements. Great as there will be many A9 devices in the wild after iOS 15 will stop supporting them. We can dream Apple could do something in this way for iOS 12 as well as there were rumor of separate security updates for iOS.
