Almost certainly this version (iOS 14.6) will be released by or before June 4, the last business day before WWDC 2021 starts and iOS 15 DP1 is released.

This seems certain, yes. However, ain't gonna be past them to do a 14.6.1 or 14.7 (they have a penchant for dot number increases since 2020) and then get to iOS 15.

I am waiting for iOS 15 at this point, though. I am reasonably sure iPhone 8 will handle it fine, and maybe next year or a year later I will upgrade both my phone and laptop together. Maybe. iPhone 7 and 8, along with MBA 2017 are taking iOS 14 and macOS Big Sur well, respectively. I expect them to take 2021's releases equally well. 2022, most likely not that well.

I am debating on re-joining the beta program, but with 14.5 coming out on Wednesday (most likely), I'm not sure it's worth the trouble.

I read somewhere that Apple made it easier to switch from beta to non beta without uninstalling the beta profile.

correct. You can keep your beta profile on your phone and still receive final official releases and have the option to install - rather than normally having to remove the beta profile.

My biggest concern is call blocking and ID.. Now it is being turned off at random times.
Running okay this morning. No reboots. Yet just now I looked and it was disabled and removed from Settings.

I'm also on Verizon and also having disappointing results. For one thing, Verizon 5G is a joke, it is no faster than LTE and sometimes slower, when I'm in areas with 5G coverage. One reason I bought a 12 Pro Max was for the Qualcomm modem; the Intel modem in my 11 Pro had so-so cellular data performance. But the Qualcomm is only a little faster on up and way slower on down.

So like you, I'm hoping some of this can be fixed with a modem update, and this newest beta has a modem update.

But I'm not holding my breath. None of the modem updates in iOS versions since last November have improved things for me. Hopefully they've improved connectivity for other Verizon users, or people on other carriers.
A modem update is going to make very incremental changes to signal strength and data speeds. They have sorted 98% of the modem on release. Sure, there are changes like the dual SIM 5G and T-Mobile 5G SA, but those are exceptions.

Verizon is lacking in sub-mmWave 5G so they are slicing up the spectrum they have. Until they implement the better slicing technologies that exist, the 5G experience is going to be somewhat mediocre.

I’ve noticed significant speed increases the past few months in AT&T’s delivery of 5G and am seeing download speeds up to 200Mbps, when I am line of sight to a tower (~1 mile away). Most of the time though, the download speeds are comparable to AT&T’s 5Ge flavor of LTE (but faster than “normal” LTE).

Not sure if the speed increase is the result of modem improvements or AT&T-side improvements (also not sure if AT&T is having the same issues as Verizon). But I had fairly low expectations in the 1st generation of phones having this capability. Just as the first LTE phones were somewhat underwhelming, as well.

Anyone noticing their iPhone 12/Pro getting very hot randomly? Mine got very hot all of a sudden twice in 2 days.

AT&T is in a similar boat as Verizon has far as spectrum, so they are slicing and dicing their LTE spectrum. There are spots where you're going to get super speeds if they have the extra spectrum in that location.

T-Mobile actually holds most of the best sub-mmWave spectrum right now.

I did hit the 5G Ultra Wideband once the other day in the car, did a really fast speed test and got over 400Mbps!

Here's a snip of Verizon's DSS tech: https://www.sdxcentral.com/articles/news/verizon-ceo-defends-dss-details-5g-edge-strategy/2020/12/

Got to say, I’m loving 14.6 on my 12. Smooth, snappy, solid battery life. Can really notice a difference just coming off the RC. Would love to know what they found or tweak they made to get such an improvement out of the IOS.
So that implies 14.5 isn’t? Which is quite concerning after 90 days and 8 betas! SMH

Maybe they found something last minute that couldn’t make it to the RC, So it went into 14.6. Who knows. there’s an improvement and in an earlier post a better geekbench score for the single core on 14.6 B1 to back that up.

it is. But you’ll notice a difference as I said from the RC build to 14.6 B1.
Ah ok. I’m just hoping there’s a decent improvement on my iPhone 12 and iPad Pro 2020. iOS 14 in general has caused lots of random stuttering all over the place especially on ipad pro. Supposedly most of that is remedied in 14.5. Fingers crossed. Super annoying on iPad With pro motion

Mine isn’t random but my 12 Pro is getting unusually hot while charging through the fast charging portion of the charge. Less than 80%.

my 12 gets hot after wireless charging on fast charge. But its always done that. Cools down pretty quick after. I’d say it feels like a warm cup of tea if that’s anything to gage by for you. If that helps at all.

It only happens if you leave the app drawer on in messages. The black bar is simply the app drawer loading and it temporarily makes the whole bottom of the message thread UI black for a split second. If you just always hide the app drawer, it never happens.
I always have my app drawer open. Perhaps it only affects some models?
